Transcode takes too long - Playback Error

I’m running the latest version of the server on my Synology 918+.

I’m pretty new to Plex (today!) so please bear with me.

I’m having no end of trouble with Transcoding. At first I thought the problem was to do with VOBSUB files - but after playing around a lot I discovered that just forces the transcode.

(When I turn those off it’s fine because it’s no longer transcoding.)

Anyway - if I change the quality of the stream down to 320 after about 20 seconds I get (obvs terrible) video.

But at the original (720, in the case of the files I’m testing most often) it just spins and spins until it says:
Playback Error
An unexpected playback problem occurred.

This is on my Samsung TV (a 2021 model).

On other players it’s fine (iOS and Laptop) but I can see when playing through those devices it’s not transcribing.

I believe I have everything set up properly through the server interface.

Any ideas or thoughts?

PS - my 918+ was upgraded to have 12GB of RAM, and 256 SSD cache

First. you want to get that memory back down to 4GB + 4GB.

The maximum supported by the chip is 8GB .

With 12GB installed, DSM will eventually get confused and think it has more memory than it can use and it will crash – potential data loss.

Regarding the transcode issues,

Please start a playback
Wait 20 seconds
Stop the playback
Wait 10 seconds more
Download the logs ZIP file (Settings - Server - Troubleshooting - Download Logs)
Attach that ZIP here so I can look at it and see what’s happening.

Thank you! I appreciate all your help here.

Here we are.Plex Media Server Logs_2021-08-21_17-54-41.zip (7.4 MB)

(The 20 seconds seems to have just about taken it to the error message too.)

I suspect this might be down to the Samsung Plex app. I tried the same thing through a new Apple TV and it works just fine.

My Samsung TV is a brand new 2021 Frame - I would have expected it to work just fine.
