[Transcoder] [eac3_eae @ *] EAE timeout! EAE not running, or wrong folder? Could not read '/tmp/pms-*/EasyAudioEncoder/Convert to WAV (to 8ch or less)/*.wav'

Server Version#: 4.52.1
Player Version#: 4.52.1

Plex has been running like a champ for years on my Synology NAS in a Docker container (using the linuxserver/plex image). Starting sometime late last year, however, it stopped transcoding 4K content, throwing the message “Unable to convert.”

Looking under Settings → Console and filtering for “transcode”, I saw this message many times over:

[Transcoder] [eac3_eae @ 0xa1c900] EAE timeout! EAE not running, or wrong folder? Could not read '/tmp/pms-edab4d56-d665-4a60-8ccf-cfb35f45a9b2/EasyAudioEncoder/Convert to WAV (to 8ch or less)/466753e0-1915-4799-90a5-d082479f5cf6_5266-0-2.wav'

Now, messages like this have sparked at least a dozen posts on this message board. I’ve read all of them. Unless I’ve missed some other suggestions, I’ve only seen three:

  1. Increase the size of the inotify table
  2. Set the EasyAudioEncoder to be executable
  3. Delete the Codecs folder entirely

I have tried all three and all three have failed to fix the issue. I increased the size of the inotify table without effect, EAE is already set to be executable for user, group, and other, and the Codecs folder gets rebuilt, but doesn’t change anything.

I am completely clueless now as to where to go from here. I don’t know why this started becoming an issue just late last year all of a sudden. I still have terabytes of space left and plenty of RAM that is never fully used, so I’m not running out of either of those resources.

Someone please help?
