Transcoder error when subtitles enabled with and without hardware acceleration

Hey Guys,

Recently, after upgrading TrueNAS from FreeNAS i started getting transcoder errors. This happens for people on my own network, as well as externally. We notice it might have something to do with subtitles being enabled.

I tried fixing the issue by doing the following recommended steps i found on the forums and on reddit:

  • Reinstalled Plex Media Server completely in a separate jail.
  • Set a custom transcoder temp folder, gave the plex user full permissions to this folder
  • Tried disabling hardware acceleration, this didn’t work so turned it back on again.
  • Set the kern.ipc.somaxconn variable to 2048 in the tunables.
  • Gave the Plex user full permissions on the whole pool/dataset.

Some more information:

  • Server Version#: 1.24.4.5081
  • Player Version#: 4.68.0
  • TrueNAS version#: TrueNAS-12.1-MASTER-202103300439

Any help would be greatly appreciated since I’m out of ideas.

It might be a different issue, but we just noticed it also crashes sometimes even without subtitles.
