Hello I am fairly new and I am assuming I am just doing something wrong. However here is some information to help you understand where I am coming from.
My plex server is running on a i7 computer with 24gb of ram. My plex client is a fire tv cube on an older 1080p tv. I am testing the streams with 4k video files. I have a drive mapped for ram transcoding to speed up the transcoding process which I believe has helped. However when playing the videos on my fire tv/samsung tv it has a hard time. Glitchy sound and studdering at times. However when watching the same videos on my laptop and phone on the same network they play perfect. The server CPU also jumps to 100% and the transcoding begins when playing on the fire tv but when I watch on the laptop and phone the CPU stays very low and no transcoding. So I am assuming I just have it optimized wrong. This is where I could use some help. I have tried optimizing to TV as well as choosing custom and chose tv and changed to a few different options.
So I guess my question is how am I supposed to know what setting to optimize my videos to so I can prevent as much transcoding as possible? Like I said it works great on phone and laptop on wifi network. My fire tv is hard wired. My internet isn’t that great…25mb down and upload at 5mb. However I am running these on LAN and my backbone for lan is great. Gigabit switch, router, cat6a cable ect.
Please any info on making Plex work at its best on my setup would be great.
