I am still having issues with transcoding files on newer versions of PMS. If I downgrade my QNAP NAS to PMS v1.16.6.1592 everything works fine, but as soon as I upgrade to later versions, transcoding stops working - I just get a black screen.
In a different thread I was told to buy a stick to put into the TV but I shouldn’t have to buy something else when this feature worked in old versions.
Can you please look into why this worked in v1.16.6.1592 and then stopped afterwards and update package as appropriate? It stopped working on new PMS versions quite some time ago so so I’m not entirely sure when it stopped. I have access to v1.18.3.2156 onwards and it had stopped working from that version (but it may have been earlier.
On the first set, I left the playback type as “Auto Select”. The screen went black and when pressing the Info button it shows that “Transcode” had been selected however the elapsed timer did not commence.
On the second set, I selected “Transcoding” as the playback type. The screen went black and the elapsed timer started incrementing however there was no picture or sound.
I am seeing this same issue on TVS-872XT which is one of the most Plex capable NAS there is. I am not using any GPU, only the processor, and this works flawlessly on Plex Server 1.16.6.1592 qpkg from QNAP. But once I upgrade to the current version 1.20.1.3252 by downloading it from the Plex site, it quits working completely. On a 4K file my processor goes from 5% during playback to 50-60%! Two people try to watch at the same time and it maxes out causing stutter.
Something was broken in this never version.
Would you please turn DEBUG logging back on and recreate the problem?
I can’t see what PMS is doing with it turned off.
As Info to you, the amount of space used by the logs is fixed size and self curating.
It keeps the last 5 logs, each at a maximum of 10.4 MB each.
Apologies for the delay in responding to your request. Unfortunately my old Samsung TV has been plagued with the dreaded “cannot connect to Internet” issue. I’ve been searching for a solution but have been unable to come across one that will restore the Internet@TV functionality. I am therefore unable to reproduce the problem for you.
For now I have resorted to plugging a laptop into the TV via HDMI and am using the Windows 10 Plex App. Given I’m using the Plex App I have since updated my QNAP to the latest version of PMS.
