Transferring Plex Server from Intel Mac to M2 Mac

I’m planning to migrate my Plex Media Server from an old Intel Mac Mini to a M2 Mac Mini and plan to follow this guide:

Move an Install to Another System | Plex Support

The couple of questions I have are:

  1. Will there be any issues migrating from Intel to M2 that this guide doesn’t cover?
  2. Also if my media is on an external drive, is it as simple as plugging the drive into the new machine and therefore bypassing the section " Copy Server Data From the Source System"?

Sorry if this has all been answered before but any help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. No it should be pretty straightforward.
  2. That step isn’t referring to the media file. It’s referring to the metadata and server data itself. You’ll need to do that otherwise you’d be starting from scratch. No watch history, shares, library, nada.

Also t at add to above and to make things simple make sure the volume drive paths the same

Ok cblevins321 thanks for confirming that - won’t skip that step then!

And BigWheel in regards to a mac I will be simply moving the external hard drive without changing the name of the drive. I’m assuming that should work ok.

I’m also assuming transferring all the system files and preferences maintains the drive mapping for TV Shows and Movies from the external drive assuming it has the same name etc?

yes all of that is in the Data folder which is why you need to keep it. The server ID is in the plist which is the main reason need to keep that.
