Transparent square in the plex player then app crashes

Server Version#: v.1.42.2.10156-f737b826c (Linux)
Player Version#: 1.110.0.351-4e48eb83

So I’ve had a strange issue with the plex player this week. All of a sudden a small transparent square has appeared on the screen and when I attempt to play any media the player UI freezes. The playback is fine but attempting to click on the program will cause it to crash.
Event viewer records the following.

The program Plex.exe version 0.0.0.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

When plex crashes I get a zombie process that can not be closed. It currently has the cache folder locked so im assuming the process is GPU related as the cached files relate to rendering.

Nothing on the system has changed in the month. Like GPU drivers, or any drivers for that matter.

Uninstalling and deleting every piece of software and file related to Plex and reinstalling the latest version doesn’t fix it. Using DDU to remove the drivers and test 2 different driver versions results in the same thing.

I have PlexPlayer debug logs running and the only thing they show is that the video starts to playback and does a player.onPositionUpdate then the logging stops as the program crashes.

Sorry to hear you have such an odd problem.

You might have to reinstall your graphics driver. You could also remove your RAM and GPU, blow out the slots, and reseat them. If it continues maybe even Memtest86 and FurMark.
