Plex player crashing on launch after update, reinstall not resolving issue

Server Version#:
Player Version#:Plex-1.92.1.140-8e1f68f5-x86_64
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>

I’ve reinstalled, rebooted, cleared temp folder. Plex launches, the window is gray with no information for about 3-5 seconds, then crashes with no error window. The process appears in task manager with the status suspended and then isn’t there after the crash. End of the log below, I don’t know enough to know what to be looking for in it.

Having the same issue after the latest update

I’m not seeing anything in the log which would indicate the problem. Do you have the same with Plex HTPC? It uses much the same code so it could be a data point.

You could also try renaming the %localappdata%\Plex to a different name and launch the app to see if it is any different. This will result in you no longer logged in but could potentially resolve the issue.

The download links i can find for Plex HTPC seem to be the same as the download I have already so I assume that’s what I’ve been using? EDIT: Disregard, was looking at the wrong links. Plex HTPC is running fine on my desktop.

I’ve renamed the plex folder in local and the crash is still occuring.

@gbooker02 Clearly there is something wrong with that version as I’ve tried installing that version on 3 clean separate PCs and all have the same issue, so something has changed since the previous version.

This is far from widespread and I cannot reproduce on any machine. Additionally nothing changed between these two releases aside from JS code which should be incapable of causing an application crash. From this, the most likely conclusion is there is something wrong on the PCs and the app is merely exposing the issue rather than the cause.
One possibility is buggy GPU drivers. I noticed that only 3 have reported the issue with only 2 providing logs or any info on the setup and both of those are using AMD GPUs. I wonder if this is related. Is this the case with everyone?

Hi,
I have this exact problem, which occurred right after the latest Plex Player Update. I can still use the server to watch Plex content. This is on the same PC, well it just is.

Sorry for the late reply as I’ve been away for a few days. This certainly not a driver issue as it’s happening on Intel, AMD and Nvidia graphics cards.

For now I’m sticking with the previous version and not allowing automatic updates, it’s just a pain that every time I open the app I have to say no for updating.

As I’ve previously said, it’s happening on fresh installs of Windows as well as established systems, therefore it shows there is an issue with the current install, hopefully someone in the engineering team can track down which file is causing the corruption.

This issue is still occurring. Has there been any further reports or a fix discovered?
