I hope this is a simple question. I just added the movie Top Gun: Maverick to my movie library and Plex is refusing to recognize. It just update the artwork give a description or any of the meta data. I have asked Plex to scan the library and even had it refresh everything. If I go to match and can’t find anything. Any idea of what to try next?
Plex Media Server version?
If running Plex Media Server 1.32.8, restart Plex. 1.32.8 has a bug and the scanners do not always initialize correctly. Restarting PMS should initialize the scanners correctly.
Make sure the file is named according to Plex requirements:
/movies <-- folder added to movie library
../Top Gun Maverick (2022) <-- MovieName (year)
..../Top Gun Maverick (2022).ext <-- ext = mkv/mp4/etc.
Is the file a MP4?
Plex will read embedded metadata if configured to do so and use it instead of downloaded metadata. If the embedded metadata is incorrect, Plex may not display the movie correctly.
Tell Plex to ignore embedded metadata:
Edit the Library → Advanced → uncheck Prefer Local Metadata → Save.
Note: This affects all movies in the library.
Correct the embedded metadata
If you need to use embedded metadata, make sure it is correct. Subler is a very good Mac application for remuxing files and editing metadata.
I am not sure the version. I have asked it to update the latest version. The file doesn’t have embedded metadata so that isn’t it.
Settings → Server_Name → General

It was 1.38. Upgraded and it’s working now.
Thanks.
