Unable to add new movie

Server Version#: 1.16.0.1226-7eb2c8f6f

I have put a video file (“The Longest Day.mkv”) under the subdirectory of my Movies library and, from the browser (as I’ve done thousands of times), clicked the three dots context menu to the side of that library and chosen Movies … Scan Library Files. I do not see this new title under L (for Longest Day) or T (for The Longest Day) and using search I cannot find it. Here what I see in my filesystem:

/plex-movies/Movies/The Longest Day/
-rw-rw-r-- 1 russ russ 1506090801 Jun 28 16:45 'The Longest Day.mkv'

I have bounced my Plex Media server. I have logged out of plex.tv in the browser and logged back in. Nothing appears to detect this movie. I have many years doing this successfully. The only things I can think of are a) I recently updated the Plex Media server version and b) I may have messed up the Agents settings. Currently, I see

For Movies/Personal Media:
x Personal Media
x Local Media Assets (Movies)

For Moves/Plex Movie:
x Plex Movie
x Local Media Assets (Movies)
x Cinematerial
x Fanart.tv
x OpenSubtitles.org

I am reluctant to choose Movies … Refresh All Metadata because a) I don’t see this as my problem and b) I tend to correct summaries, posters, etc and don’t want these disturbed for other movies. I just want Plex to acknowledge that I’ve added this new file.

Any thoughts?

look at your Plex Media Scanner.log and check if it can see the file at all or if it had a permissions issue. (every time you hit scan for files a new log is created so if you have been hitting it a bunch it might be in an older one. the higher the number a the end of file name the older the log)

Is your server running as a user named russ ?

If not, set owner of the file to plex
