Trouble with Movies from my media library appearing in plex

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

Hello
i added my plex library from my QNAP NAS and noticed i am missing some movies in plex. went through them all and checked the names and corrected a bunch but still missing movies. thought it may be naming but i have 1,258 item in my library but only have 1,233 in plex which tells me im missing some. i copied 4 of the movies im missing and moved to desktop and changed the name in properties and moved them back in and plex still doesn’t see them. not sure what else can do.
am i missing some library sync settings.
any help would be appreciated.

What are the file names, and when renaming did you perform the plex dance? Does plex show them as duplicates?

Does the number in Plex change, after you’ve selected a different sorting order than “By Title”?

file names are the names of the movies, for example thor and Riddick to name a few.
so for the plex dance, i have to move all files out of the folder i have them in, if I’m understanding this correctly? so create a new folder on the nas to move files to. perform the steps listed in plex dance and then move them back?

no it remains the same

when i change from movies to folders it increases the count by 1

Can you perform a file scan, and then post your server logs along with the exact filename of an affected movie?

Plex Media Server Logs_2022-09-09_20-17-22.zip (4.6 MB)

movie file name Riddick

So. your naming is fairly bad. Im going to bet that Chronicles Of Riddick and Riddick are getting combined as one movie.

rename the files to Chronicles of Riddick (2004) {imdb-tt0296572}.mp4 and Riddick (2013) {imdb-tt1411250}.mp4 then plex dance them

Ill also give my canned response:

If you want to save yourself a lot of time I would recommend using Download - tinyMediaManager and use ${title} (${year}) {imdb-${imdb}} as the new name format.

thanks for all your help. can i use this media manager to fix the naming of all current files

Yes you can

great thanks again.
installed this changed the naming in the Renamr pattern Filename to what you provided. not sure if i’m supposed to change folder name? so left it ${title} ${- ,edition,} (${year})
went under movies, search & Scrape, search & scrape all unscraped movies. not sure if this did anything?
any steps you could provide as im a newbie would be useful.
thanks

Folder names are up to you, I dont do subfolders (Yeah I know its not plex recommended but Oh well)

I manually scrape and match the names as its not 100% Sometimes it matches to the wrong year version or just gets the wrong name. If you havent renamed anything Id start over. (make sure you delete the nfo and jpg files it created)

but if you do use subfolders the format is ${title} (${year})

is there a way to track down all the movies in plex that merged as that was the issue. i fixed a bunch so far?

Go into the library. In the upper left corner click the dropdown next to “All”

Then click “duplicates”

Screenshot (506)

You can then click the 3 dots on any posters there and select “get info”

That will tell you the names of the movies that were combined and the path in your file system for where they’re located

thanks that helped. still have 11 movies unaccounted for. says 1248 in plex and 1258 in media folder. not sure how to find where they are unless i go through them 1 by one

You can export them via Releases · WebTools-NG/WebTools-NG · GitHub
