Hello, For the past couple of weeks I’ve been seeing an issue with my Remote Access. It says it’s “Not available outside my network”. I’ve tried everything that I’ve read to fix it, server is on a static IP, I set a port forwarding rule on my router. ext. Nothing fixes it. The very weird thing is that I can still access my content from outside my network most of the time. It just states that I’m “Indirectly” playing it. I’m lost and trying to get some answers or advice. I had no issue before 2 weeks ago so, and nothing that I know about has changed…so you see my frustration.
Indirect just means your port forwards aren’t working. You’ll have to check if they’re still correct, or if you’re behind CG-NAT which means you won’t be able to access your server from the outside (without some major workarounds).
So my IP address has not changed. I did go to canyouseeme.org and it gave me a error with “connection refused”. Could the problem be with my ISP router? I just don’t understand how form working fine it just stopped working all of a sudden.
Checking with canyouseeme makes only sense if you previously created a portforwarding in the settings of your router.
While you are there, check also for firewall settings.
After creating the portforwarding in your router, you must tell Plex that you did this and also which external port number you used (you can use arbitrary port numbers for the internet-facing side).
It sometimes happens that ISPs turn on CG-NAT for their existing customers. Determine if this is the case. canyouseeme.org will tell you your real external IP address. Compare it with the ‘public address’ you see in Plex (and the one which is shown as your public address in the settings of your router).
If these are differing, then you are behind a CG-NAT. There is not much you can do in this case, except talking to your ISP.
Sometimes ISPs will put you back onto a real public IPv4 address if you ask them to.
