Hello, hope one or more of you guys can help me. Spending too many hours trying to fix ability to access remotely.
I have FIOS modem connected to a NETGEAR x8. Not in double NAT. Bridge mode done by tech. I set up static address of my Server with PLEX app (updated to latest). I have made it a static address on both the Unraid and Netgear settings.
I have port forwarded and unforwarded with no luck. I am using service type TCP/UDP, external starting and ending ports are 32400. Likewise, Internal starting and ending are 32400. Is that correct?
Then assuming your hardware including your routers are configured correctly, and the router you are doing this on is not just an access point, I would suggest you contact you ISP to insure they allow port forwarding (few don’t) and if that the case ask them to at the very least open the port(s) you want to use.
Hello, possible Help if you are still having problems…
Attached are 3 screen shots of my setup for PMS Remote Access.
01 – Plex Remote Access – shows a working PMS configuration. The Private section references the IP address of the machine I have PMS installed on not necessarily the router’s address and the internal port I use 32400 which is PMS’s default. Also shown is the Public section that has your ISP’s assigned IP address (the white-out area) and the external port to use for PMS. I do not use the default of 32400 because I am running multiple PMS on my network.
02- Netgear Router X6 – shows the “Advanced Home” page under the “Advanced tab. Note the 1st box “Router Information” and the IP address. This is the router where you want to setup your port forwarding specification. The “Internet Port” which I white-out show the addressing obtained from you ISP.
03 – Netgear Router X6 – shows the Port Forwarding information. When I click on “+Add Custom Service” I can specify a unique “Service Name”, “External Start Port” (which is unique to a different PMS, if you run only one then there will be only one entry), “Internal Start Port” I used the PMS default address for all, and the PMS internal (your network) IP address for each server. The one catchy thing here is you will need to specify the protocol used when setting up Port Forwarding so make sure you select TCP/UDP as the value.
I have had routers that required I reboot for the changes to take effect although the X6 does not require this. I have also found that you will at a minimum need to enable – disable – enable remote access on the PMS or stop and start the PMS itself. Try and see what you may have to do for your installation. One last thing for me was I need to turn on the routers “UPnP: function for remote access to work.
Well that’s it, hope it works out for you. If you still have problems are trying this then I suspect, you are double-nat’ing or your “bridge” between routers is not working properly.
I am sure you have seen this page https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200484543-Enabling-Remote-Access-for-a-Server and followed the links for additional information but I mention it in case you have not.
When you set up your docker what Network type did you use Bridged or Host? If you set it up as host you do not need to forward any ports. Make sure UPnP is enabled. It should be Advanced (Tab) --advanced setup – UPnP. Your problem may be because the port is being mapped twice. Disable you port forwarding and make sure the UPnP ports match the ones on plex.
Randy and Gragorg, havent had time yet to work on it, but I will. I wanted to give you guys a quick thank you for your willingness to help a neophyte. Take care and I will report back.
Gragorg, I made sure upnp is enabled on my netgear router. I disabled port forwarding on the router and plex web server settings. I see that UPnP on the router has ports open 11098 both internal and external (self assigned since I set a new static ip). So if I assign Plex web server to these ports wont that be port forwarding in a way?
Randy thank you for your post again. I will keep working on this and report back.
i kmow you said that you are not double nat because:
I have FIOS modem connected to a NETGEAR x8. Not in double NAT. Bridge mode done by tech.
However I have seen were the dsl /cable/fiber tech says they did bridge mode but did not or at lest did not do it correctly. I would verify that the FIOS modem is truly in bridge mode. A fairly easy check would to look at you wan ip address on your INETGEAR x8. If it is a public address in the wan interface then the bridge mode is most likely setup correctly.
This may not help your configuration but I just discovered a solution to my problem on Unraid.
I have installed a second ethernet card in my server to fix an issue with drivers in the latest releases of UnRaid. Because of this I now have a second interface entry in Network settings. I just noticed that Plex was not getting the IP address of the interface in use. It chose the inactive one. Setting both interfaces to an identical address has fixed this and now I have Remote access working.
