Sounds like when you choose TrueHD audio, which will transcode, it results in the video also transcoding. Enabling subtitles can cause that. Havenât ran across other reasons. You should be able to transcode audio and still direct stream the video.
First step is to verify that is what is happening.
Play your video with the AC3 audio track. What is shown in the Dashboard (Plex Web -> Activity -> Dashboard)? Are both the audio & video direct playing? You may need to click the gold, rectangular icon on the right to expand the view.
Then play the video with TrueHD audio selected. What does the Dashboard show?
FYI, just doubled checked with my B7 OLED. I can play an HDR10 movie with TrueHD audio and no subtitles. The video direct streams, the audio transcodes to AAC.
You are right, its transcoding to AAC. But the video is completely defect.
Its about 2seconds normal, then for 1-2 mins defect. Just a single colour and on top of the screen small colored vertical stripes.
But the screen does not have a HUD with âBufferingâ or something else.
Iâve never seen anything like that. Especially when direct playing/streaming. Direct Streaming should not make a difference.
The only thing I can think of is the rather generic suggestion to uninstall/re-install the app. Somewhat like asking a PC user, âhave you tried rebooting?â No reason to believe it will work, but sometimes it does.
Maybe another user or one of the ninjas/employees will have an idea.
Can you post a picture of when the video is defective? That might help somebody figure out what is happening.
the only way to get truehd is via nvidia shield or other external device that is plugged into a receiver or soundbar that is compatible with truehd/atmos.
Out of curiosity is that with remuxes or encodes?
I have seen it many times. But only with 4K encodes (at least 30% of them). The 4K remuxes work perfectly though may be subject to buffering due to the higher bitrates.
Essentially the LG does not like something in the way the files are being encoded.
I donât have any 4K movies/shows that have been run through Handbrake or similar tools.
I do get buffering on the high bit rate media. Due to location, the TV does not receive a decent WiFi signal. I have it connected via wired Ethernet, and the TV Ethernet port is 100 Mbps max.
The vast majority of the time, I use a Nvidia Shield as my Plex client. The Shieldâs Ethernet port is 1 Gbps, so there is no issue with buffering due to bandwidth limitations.
Thats kind of what I suspected.
Im pretty sure that @foxx will not see the same issue with pure Remuxes or (if ripping at home) simply extracting with MakeMKV.
The LG just really hates what it sees as badly encoded files. The Shield and ATV 4K was usually more tolerant of them (but not always).
Either way I avoid them like the plague nowadays. @Foxx I really suggest (and Im assuming here you are getting your files from the net) to try at least one full Remux.
Your issue is nothing to do whatsoever with transcoding casued by audio track or subtitles.
I have only had this issue with HD-MA 7.1 channel movies, what even weirder those files will play with smartshare / DLNA. 5.1 channel HD-MA no problem.
