A simple question I need answering. I was led to believe that the tuner can be connected to either a client PC running Plex or the actual machine running PMS. Right no I have the tuner connected to my client machine and the WinTV software itself works just fine, but Plex does not detect any tuners.

Do I have to have the tuner connected to the PMS machine instead? If yes, that makes things wildly more difficult.

Looks like you have a USB or possibly a PCI tuner, so yes, it’d need to be physically connected to the Plex server for it to be recognized and used by Plex.

The HD Homerun network attached tuners can be anywhere as long as their IP address can be reached, but physical devices like USB sticks and PCI cards have to be in the Plex Server PC.

If you’re dead set on having them on another computer, I did see reference to TVHeadend and TVHProxy, which apparently allows you to setup one or more USB/PCI devices as network attached devices that look like a HD Homerun and can thus be accessed over the network. Haven’t tried it myself, but seems cool.
