Plex What the hell is going on
I have an old Qnap which doesn’t support upgrading to the latest version of there firmware ,
A few years ago you send out an email saying you would stop support Qnap’s running this version ok fair enough can live with that.
But now you say that you won’t even allow TV artwork to be updated.
I’m sorry but that’s just not on I purchased Plex because it was such a great Media server and now you start pulling features.
Very disappointing.

I’m not sure but the change is about TheTVDB.com they upgraded their API to v3
Maybe if you change your metadata provider to:
https://www.themoviedb.org/
and use it for TVShows you get fix your problem and get a better metadata for your TVShows.
In my point of view now TheMovieDB is better than TheTVDB.com
@RicardoVelaC agreed, overall TheMovieDB is better but there is one major drawback related to how plex gets casts from TheMovieDB over TheTVDB (see below). If @TheEsp can live with that then switching to that provider is a good option.
Not really – if you want to change your TV library to use TMDB then under Settings -> Manage -> Libraries select your TV Library. Select advanced and change the agent to The Movie Database. Scan and refresh metadata should then switch for you.
