TV episodes split across multiple files - but not playing properly

Server Version#: 1.21.4.4079
Player Web Version#: 4.52.2
Plex Android Version#: 8.13.1.23036

I have a tv series where I ended up downloading the files from youtube. But now, each episode is split into four parts, and it is complicated by having subtitles. So I have it organised for plex as:

Series Name/Season 1/Series Name - S01E01 - pt1.mp4
Series Name/Season 1/Series Name - S01E01 - pt1.srt
Series Name/Season 1/Series Name - S01E01 - pt2.mp4
Series Name/Season 1/Series Name - S01E01 - pt2.srt
Series Name/Season 1/Series Name - S01E01 - pt3.mp4
Series Name/Season 1/Series Name - S01E01 - pt3.srt
Series Name/Season 1/Series Name - S01E01 - pt4.mp4
Series Name/Season 1/Series Name - S01E01 - pt4.srt

The problem I have is:

  1. Plex recognises that there are 4 parts to this episode, and lists it as Ep. 1 [4/4]. But when I play it in the web player, it plays them out of order: pt3, pt4, pt1, then pt2. How do I fix the order?

  2. In my Android Plex app, it plays S01E01 pt3 first, then moves on to S01E02. ?!?

what you have looks good enough to me

try using

Series Name/Season 1/Series Name - S01E01 - part1.mp4
Series Name/Season 1/Series Name - S01E01 - part1.srt
Series Name/Season 1/Series Name - S01E01 - part2.mp4
Series Name/Season 1/Series Name - S01E01 - part2.srt
Series Name/Season 1/Series Name - S01E01 - part3.mp4
Series Name/Season 1/Series Name - S01E01 - part3.srt
Series Name/Season 1/Series Name - S01E01 - part4.mp4
Series Name/Season 1/Series Name - S01E01 - part4.srt

I would make sure that the file data created timestamps are in order chronology.

Also, note “Not all Plex apps support playback of stacked media”.
Personally, I would just combine them for compatibility.

Android doesn’t support split files.

step 1:
mux the subtitles with their video files together, using MKVtoolnixGUI

step 2: chain the parts together, using this HowTo: [HowTo]: joining multi-part movies files with MKVtoolnix GUI
