I recently was renaming some tv episodes from the show Top Shot and noticed that two of the episodes were incorrectly identified, despite using the format of Top Shot S??E?? Episode Title
Using the ?? to represent the actual season and episode numbers.
The two episodes were called “The 1000 yard shot” and “The 1500 yard shot”
When Plex updated with these episodes renamed, they showed up as S10E00 and S15E00
I double checked that the naming of the episodes matched the other episodes, and they did.
The only difference is in the usage of the 1000 and 1500 in the episode titles.
I worked around it by renaming the episodes using the words “one thousand” and “fifteen hundred”, but, imo, I shouldn’t have had to do that.
Anyone else come across this situation and have found a way to do it so the episode name shows correctly with the number in place?
Are you using the dashes correctly? Plex uses dashes “-” as delimiters to help parse.
Series Name - SxxEyy - description.ext.
Hope that helps.
I will double check as soon as my system finishes updating and reply with what I find
The episode name is optional. Plex will match SxxEyy against thetvdb.com and pull the episode name.
/Top Shot
/Season 02
/Top Shot - S02E09.ext
or
/Top Shot - S02E09 - The 1000 Yard Shot.ext
The problem FordGuy61, is that, for some reason Plex is taking the 1000 or 1500 to identify as season and episode, making it appear on Plex as S10E00 and S15E00
This inspite of the fact that the proper season and episode numbers are in the correct location per the TV show naming convention on Plex.
No problem if the episode name isn’t included, but as that is optional, then it shouldn’t matter what is in that information.
Right. You found what appears to be a bug and have a workaround until Plex can rectify the situation.
FYI, I ran a quick test, renaming some MKV files to match Top Shot episodes. Plex correctly identified and displayed the episodes.
I’m running PMS 1.14.1.5488 on a Synology DS918+.
Check how your agents are configured. Picture of mine below. Might try dragging TheTVDB to the top of the list. The files I used have no local metadata, so having Local Media Assets (TV) at the top was not a problem. You’ll need to manually refresh the metadata if you change agent order.
Also, you’ll need to Plex Dance any episodes if you change the name (add/remove episode name, etc).
