TV metadata mismatch

i have a tv show and no matter how often i manually change the name of the individual shows it keeps reverting back to a completely different show. that is the individual episodes. the entire series i cannot even set a name or a tag for that matter. is there really no manual override for naming anymore?

We need to see the full path to the show including its full name. It can be outside the naming convention, a bad agent order, etc

Plex is very picky with TV shows. Make sure you are following Plex recommendations. See Your Media -> TV Show Files (Naming and Organizing).

Example:

/Media
   /A TV Show Library  <-- Library points here
    /Lost In Space
      /Season 01
        /Lost In Space - s01e01.mkv

it comes up as a TV show called Body of Proof

side note…i have no tv show called body of proof

I’m getting the same mismatch to Body of Proof.

If I name the folder & files with the Chinese characters then Plex recognizes the show correctly. However, it still does not download artwork, episode name, etc.

Other than manually renaming & locking down the changes, I’m not sure of a way to list the show as “Dark City.”

Two follow-up questions:

  1. to which folder in that sequence is your Plex library pointing?
    a. M:\
    b. M:\Plex\
    c. M:\Plex\Broadcast\
    d. M:\Plex\Broadcast\Dark City

  2. have those episode files any embedded metadata tags (specifically a title tag in combination with a prioritized Local Media Assets source for your tv-show agent)?

Edit: please ignore… only started playing with that after posting my follow-up question and ran into the same problem (as already confirmed by FordGuy61)

Edit 2: Seems to be linked to the show having no actual translation – Dark City appears to be just an Alias. Not sure however why TheTVDb then returns Body of Proof as next best match

Modifying embedded metadata & LMA works, to a degree.

Embed a title tag = Dark City
Drag Local Media Assets to the top of your agent list.
If you want episode names, rename to Dark City - s01e01 - 碟仙.m4v, etc.
Refresh the metadata for the show.

It won’t rename when Plex re-scans the library.

Note that moving Local Media Assets to the top may have implications for other shows in the library. If the shows have embedded metadata, Plex will use it and not try to match against online sources.
