TV programer-doctor Who not match correctly

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

Hi, new to using Plex. Have added my TV programmes to server, however when it matches ‘Doctor Who’ and ‘Doctor Who 2005’ it is muddled up some data from original series is added to some files in ‘2005’. Tried using correct match and rescanned metadata and also deleted TV library and restarted matching whole library again, but each time it loads with these errors. help please.

‘Fix Match’ should always be the last resort, not the first.

This is the way tv shows need to be organized in Plex. Stick to it:
https://support.plex.tv/articles/200220687-naming-series-season-based-tv-shows/

If you use the search feature of this forum with search term ‘doctor who’, you’ll find a great deal of information about what you need to do.

  1. Look up your show on TheTVDB
  2. Take the title as it is used on TheTVDB. If there is something in parentheses, take that too. If the title contains invalid characters (depends on your file system), like § : % *, simply leave them out.
  3. Check the naming and the folder structure of your show. Name the top folder of the show exactly after the title on TheTVDB. No abbreviations. No additional subfolders. No aliases. Add the (year) in parentheses of when episode 1 of season 1 of this show was aired.
  4. Name the episode files according to the above linked naming guide. Use the same title as for the top folder. Show's Title - s01e01 - additional info.ext (’- additional info’ can be left out)
  5. After you corrected the naming and folder structure, perform the Plex Dance with all files for this show.

Thanks, but I have named all in the manner as in TVDB, the same files when I used them in Mediaportal match perfectly. ie Doctor Who 01x01 & Doctor Who (2005) 01x01 etc each are split into their own folders on the computer. as you can see from the picture, it’s like some have been muddled correct picture wrong metadata . .

  1. Plex is not media portal
  2. your naming schema is wrong for Plex
  3. It is also important not to have additional subfolders. If you e.g. have a top folder Doctor Who and then have underneath that subfolders for the classic show and the 2005 show, things will get wrong, guaranteed.

Yes I realise Plex is not Mediaportal, thanks. I do have them split into separate folders , as in all old episodes in a folder name ‘Doctor Who’ and all latest episodes in a folder named ‘Doctor Who 2005’, just can’t what\s causing it? . .

Please show the full folder structure. Starting with the folder which you put into the tv show library in plex.

Please read the help article I linked above.
It tells you precisely what is required.

did a screen shot of folders on pc

Yes, this is looking very good.

Now, when you edit your tv show library,
go to the ‘Add Folders’ tab, which paths do appear there?
It should be only H: and I:

You must not add the folders individually - e.g. H:\Doctor Who (2005) must not appear there.

I personally recommend to use 2-digit season numbers.

Now that you have conformant folder and file names, perform the Plex Dance with the whole show.
When you add the shows back, make that the classic show also has the (year) in the foldername. Add first the classic show and let Plex update the library in full, before you add the newer show in a separate step.

thanks for your help. My plex server is on a different computer from the files. But yep just the two drives are added to the TV programmes, showing drives on network. Just in the process of moving the 2005 files to another drive not listed in plex as you said. . there are no match errors in the original doctor who files, all is matched perfectly there. Just the 2005 matches that are showing errors naming some as the 1963 equivalent . but at the same time showing the correct 2005 picture for the episodes It’s ltaking a while to move files, quite a lot to go thru.

Followed your instructions, all showing as should be now Thanks for your patience and help
