TV Scanner Pulling Language Specific TV Episode Images

Server Version#: 1.25.1.5286

Plex Agent is pulling language specific TV Episode images instead of the “default” textless images. This was previously reported and documented here back in April by @anon5074910 and a Plex rep mentioned that it was on the list of bugs to address.

It seemed resolved eventually but recently it started happening again. That topic has been closed so I wanted to start a new one for what appears to be a regression.

Example: Wheel of Time
Plex:

TMDB Episode Defaults:

Even in the image listing under Edit->Poster the first listed image - which is typically the default - matches the default at TMDB but Plex selected the first language specific card instead:

Between one week and the next this show and Hawkeye both flipped episode images to language specific cards (Title Cards) instead of the default textless images. I don’t know if it was the recent server update or something on the agent back-end of things.

Can we have it go back to the textless images please?

Tangent: I mentioned in the previous thread that this could be an opportunity to add an option to have language specific vs textless episode images considering that seems to be the factor here. That way folks who prefer title cards can have those (and maybe get them in their language) and people who don’t want title cards could continue to get textless versions.

@Insomnic_1 great minds think alike  I was going to create a feature request for this yesterday but got side tracked so didn’t get around to it. A feature request won’t auto close like the previous thread I created on this which you linked above.

@OttoKerner said previously I am told this issue is on file, but not prioritized. back in July so its on their radar. This issue only started to happen when the new TV agent went live and over time has become worse with many many shows now effected by it… just 5 listed below as examples …

  • The Legend of Korra
  • Around the World With Willy Fog
  • Star Wars: The Bad Batch
  • The Mandalorian
  • Wheel of Time

I’ll also give an dishonourable mention to Hawkeye which truly look awful IMO.

I’ll also mention that some are even mixed with clean with dirty text based ones mingled in. See Ben & Holly's Little Kingdom S02 as an example of this.

Its getting to a stage where I’m considering using local episode assets for shows with this problem. I absolutely hate manually editing anything in plex and understand I can do that but it would not stick if I needed to rebuild which is why I’m not a fan.

Ideally we need a setting in plex to control this where No Language can be used rather than plex defaulting to what it believes is best.

With all that said maybe @OttoKerner @drzoidberg33 or @tom80H would be kind enough to change this thread to a feature request so we can at least keep it there until its implemented as this will just eventually auto-close like mine did.

@Insomnic_1 FYI… I wonder if something is happening behind the scenes regarding this issue. Shows The Mandalorian and Hawkeye are now showing text free generic non language posters. I’m hoping work is happening in the background to resolve this and that its not just a fluke.

That was my assumption when it started happening again, some change in the API or the scanner.

Thanks @drzoidberg33 for your help!
