Newer to Plex, rather I’ve picked it up and put it down over the years, hoping to finally have a way of serving up my content once and for all. But I mean that to include extras, and those extras be associated with the shows their about. This seems to be the thread for this, but simply appending on a fictional episode number in a season does a poor job of associating it with the actual show its about. I can’t bump this enough. In my case it’s Doctor Who. I’m stumped at how to serve these up effectively on Plex; these aren’t just deleted scenes, they are full on interviews and specials that TVDB does a crap job with.
Voted… I thought it is a thing already on Plex that I didn’t bother for TV series. Now I checked the feature isn’t there for TV, now I want it too. Funny though that this have been already requested for few years already but til now there’s no such light… Sigh…
This is how I have been dealing with DVD extras as well, but instead of starting with the first open episode, I sub-divide the extras. Deleted scenes add 100 to the episode number (i.e., Season 2, episode 14 deleted scenes are cataloged as S02E114) and additional, non-episode-specific bonus features start at 200 (or if there are additional episode-specific extras, such as an interview or behind-the-scenes featurette, those start at 2xx and additional stuff starts at 300). It’s not perfect, and takes a bit of extra work, but it integrates the extras into the show at a season level fairly well.
I like this idea @RocketFromTheTombs . It’s a pretty simple/clean way to implement it absent of any officially supported way. Thanks for sharing.
2020…still waiting…
ALSO still waiting, guess this is a bump to the top?
5y late bump. Why is Plex silent on this issue? is it so hard to implement with the way the scanner etc works? Tell us something for ■■■■■ sake…
Bump again. I’m ripping all my Star Trek TNG blurays right now, and there is no practical way for me to have all the great extras show up in Plex. In fact they mostly seem to cause problems.
I just started doing the same with my Rick and Morty blurays, hopefully this feature is implemented soon.
Hoping this gets implemented soon!
I’m just organising my Doctor Who files too, and would love an Extras folder in each season for all the additional files.
I am also having sorted all my Shows-Exras the same way I did with my movies (I first started integrating movies months ago).
Now that I am trying to integrate my already prepared shows in Plex, I’m caught completely by surprise that extras are not supported the same way like movies.
I have no understanding for this fact - can anyone tell me the reason why customers begging for this functionality for years without any response from Plex?
Above all, this functionality is suggested in this article, I read before I bought live-time-Plex pass:
https://support.plex.tv/articles/202934883-cinema-trailers-extras/
This article is about online extras. You will notice the article has written “available for movies” all over it (29 hits for “movie”, 1 match for “tv shows” referring to the part that some tv shows might have online extras too). The “occasionally for tv shows” is true… but truly rare. So far I found it for 3 shows of mine.
Don’t get me wrong… I’m also desperately waiting for this to happen (having those extras safely stored away next to my regular videos for now to be added to my library whenever it’ll be there.
Just trying to fix some confusion between online and local extras which are not the same…
Have a look at this: Local TV Extras Agent It kinda works but it’s client dependant. E.g. I can see all my extras per each series of Doctor Who on Android but can’t see them on Plex.
Seeing as this plugin works I don’t see why they can’t just enable the same functionality on each client.
I already tried Local TV Extras Agent
and it is really nice and better than nothing - but since I cannot combine different agents, I than have no Artist-Infos or the comfort the Plex/Movie-DB-Agent gives me.
So I returned to the regular agents.
It has been another year. And still no support. While creating pretend shows, like “Doctor Who Bonus (2005)” works, it is really confusing. And it even further reduces the chances I’ll actually watch the extras. Even worse, plex will automatically include extras it finds on the web in the show itself, but since there is no view to my “Doctor Who Bonus (2005)” from “Doctor Who (2005)” there is no single view just to see everything. (Yuck.)
I noticed on amazon.com, many of the extras are giving series numbering. I’m taking this as a somewhat official source and renumbering my extras to match. Again, another painful manual process. Since most of those amazon extras are free, I’ve gone ahead and “purchased” those. It would be nice if there was a plugin that allowed me to see them from plex as well. Even if it was just a list of additional material I can see elsewhere.
I hit the “Vote” button on the top of this page. I’m in full agreement.
Emby does this VERY well. And I know Kodi can do this as well. I love Plex. I purchased and use it. I would really like to see some engineering around making this work more intuitively (Emby is a great example). It can be a setting we can toggle on or off in settings. Doing this in the “On Deck” space is not the answer when you are navigating Season folders and don’t know where things fall. I know the people behind Plex already do great things like the Intro skip and commercial removal from the DVR. So I have to believe it’s possible unless their is some significant difference in the coding and those other media managers.
thanks.
I’d love to have this feature in the future
I love everything about Plex. I bought the Plex Pass and I love all the functionality it makes available. Even the recent Watch Together functionality in this time of pandemics is super welcome and great to see Plex thinking along with its users.
This is why I am utterly baffled by the fact that TV Show Extras wasn’t implemented years ago!
I’m using the very useful Local TV Extras agent made by @contrary_cat for which I’m very thankful but it is a pain that I cannot get my extras to show on my Apple TV app or on my iOS apps.
Please implement this feature so that we can add TV Show extras at the Show & Season levels (attached to episodes if you really want eternal glory).
BUMP!!
Ditto. The feature works great for movies. It should not be that difficult to add the code to TV shows as well.
BUMP
