I’ve been having an odd problem with my tv series lately. I have a ton of tv shows/series (think all episodes of ‘cheers’ or ‘yellowstone’, etc…) that were put out on dvd or bluray that I put on my nas.
Lately, as plex directs me to the next episode of the series, it’ll play the wrong episode.. in other words, PMS is pointing to the wrong episode on the nas.
is there any way to re-align the title of the episode with the correct episode?
Look up the file name of the playing episode. Note down the season and episode number.
Now look at this show on both TheMovieDB.org and TheTVDB.com
If they are listing different episode titles for the same season and episode numbers, see which is closer to how your files are named.
Then edit the show at its highest level and set its “Episode Ordering” accordingly.
(The default in Plex is the episode ordering of TheMovieDB.)
My first thought is a numbering mis-match, which is pretty darn hard to detect. What you need to do is check what Plex has called your episode, then compare that to the actual content of your episode. In some cartoons, there is an episode name near the start, but I do not think they did this before recently, and very unlikely for old live-action shows.
If this is the first time you played these files on Plex, I’m leaning even further over towards mis-match. Especially as you said they are Blue-ray/DVD rips. These collections often do NOT use a consistent numbering system, and can often be wildly different than the original air date, which most online databases use.
Since Plex ignores the filename of your files and only looks at the number, you MUST make sure that this number corresponds with that of TMDB or TVDB, based on what you have configured your library to use. I believe by default, libraries use TMDB. You will need to renumber your files to match the content of the files, despite the DVD ordering. Plex does support a DVD numbering system if they exist, but it might not exist for every show, and might have a different order than your own DVD set.
Mismatch would seem plausible. it’s all off by one episode.
Just so I’m providing you the correct information, when an episode is off, it’s by 1. Also, these are downloaded from newsdemon.
I’m thinking i could just mark all episodes as ‘watched’ and check the ones ive watched as being watched.. but its happened quite a bit, and it’s been across the board on all tv shows every now and then.. in the past, i just lived with it but i thought i’d bring it up.
