TV Show Complete / Ended Flag

I think it would be great for someone who start a tv show see if the show is complete/ended → If not it is easier to see for the Plex Server Admin to see what shows are not complete.

And when someone starts a tv show it is often important if the show has ended.

So a show can be ended but not complete or ended and complete. This info should be visible for the user on App, Tv, Website and all other devices.

As Server admin i also want to create filter to filter for complete, ended or not complete but ended shows.

That would make it easier i think to complete shows and fill library with missing episodes.

Anybody else how wants that for his tv show library?

I totally second that (and I’ve pressed the Like button).
It would be very nice to have a display for total number of episodes.
For instance with the use of a X/Y element.
X being the number of episodes you have hosted on your Plex Server and Y being the total number of episodes for the season (I guess it’s easy to pull that data from IMDB or followshows.com).

Something like this :
So easy!

Thus, if you see 10/10 on a poster, you now the TV-Show is complete and you can start watching it … because I’m sure several viewers among us have the habit to (binge) watch a TV-Show only when it’s complete !

If you’re one of those, click the [Like] button on the first post by Skycryer above, thanks !

Good idea, but the execution could be visually more pleasing.

I agree showing if a series is still running or has been cancelled/Ended would be great

Bringing it back to top so new users can find it easier.

I really think that this labels would be very helpful in client and server so users can see wich show has been ended and/or complete. Will also help the admin to find incomplete shows.

I saw in the last month some new post with same/similar request so wanted to bump this thread up and ask to vote for it (top of the thread).

Maybe this helps to get included.

I posted about this yesterday and because my description included ONE feature of this post a moderator (dick) closed my thread and replied with a level of snark that I found distasteful so I am going to re-post my OP here and hopefully we can get some movement on this feature;

Plex would be SOOOO much more amazing if it had one simple little feature…

The ability to display TV Series with the information like;

  • Is the series still running or is it ended
  • How many episodes are in each season/series
  • How many episodes are in the library

What I am describing has already been done perfectly in Sonarr and it would be amazing to see this simple little feature implemented in in Plex.

Sonarr color codes the series to show me if I have everything, if it is incomplete and if the series is still in production or if it has ended. It’s so very simple and elegant. Since Plex is supposed to be complete library management I would think this to be a no-brainer. But before you go saying… “well why don’t you just keep using Sonarr if you like it so much…”, the answer is because I shouldn’t have to maintain two libraries. When I have a complete series in the quality I want then I would like to remove it from Sonarr to make management easier.

If we had this feature in Plex then my wife and kids would be able to see at a glance if a series was complete, or if they are still waiting on episodes etc.

Besides until I loaded my library in Sonarr I assumed I had complete collections that I simply did not. Boy was I shocked.

PLEX we want this!

+1 here. I’d like to be able to see if a series is finished airing.
Say I want to start a new series (one just ended, for example). I want something that I can invest in that’s more than one season. Plex shows I have ‘x’ unwatched, but not if there will be any more to come. The little tag that Sonarr overlays on the artwork is rather handy to see if a series is ended or continuing, but I feel it would detract from the Plex UI style.
Instead, adding a filter for ‘active’ or ‘inactive’ shows would work - so I can filter down to shows that are finished, and see if any of them are long enough to sit down and enjoy for a while.

Will this ever by implemented?

Also looking for this feature !

I have a lot of old and incomplete TV shows (some of the first episodes are lost can’t be found today), and it would be really helpful.

I hope it will be implemented too

I really want this to be implemented as it would be of immense help for me to understand which TV series are complete on the server, on hiatus, ended, etc.

I really like the UI implementation that Sonarr has for TV shows…screenshot below:

In the colored band at the bottom of the poster, the numbers would indicate the number of episodes on PMS vs. total number of episodes aired. Color of the band indicates whether the TV series has ended & all episodes available (green), continuing and all aired episodes available (blue) and episodes missing (red), etc.

It would be awesome if a similar kind of infographic is made available at both the TV series and Season level

Any news?

Hello,
Yes it would be great if this feature could be implemented in Plex, as Sonarr already do.

Used for the manager, but also very useful for the users, who will be able to see if the series/season is complete before watching it.

I agree with this thread, but i think this needs to be a 2-fold icon, something that shows whether or not the series has ended in any way, whether its cancelled or the producers ended the show. Then another piece that would show if all of the seasons and episodes are there.

This could be as simple as using the existing yellow border with the check mark in it when selecting the poster for a series to show that its complete and up to date, and removing the checkmark if the series is complete but its not up to date on the server. This would be an AMAZING time saver!

I use Plex on my Nvidia Shield and I fully support the addition of this feature, in fact i crave for its addition to Plex and I can’t believe there are only 41 votes for it ???

I paid for the Plex Pass in the hope this would be implemented but sadly it hasnt !

Sonarr and many other similar programs can easily pull the “Ended or Continuing Status” from TVDB so why cant Plex ?

Really though, how hard can it be for the Devs to include it ?

i.e…just use colour-coded triangle flags overlaid on the Tv Show icon. Like just add more like you use for the “watched” flag (orange triangle) ?

Orange - Watching
Green - Continuing
Red - ENDED
Blue - Anything else

…maybe it will happen someday (roll-eyes)

I like the tag idea where you can open the series and there would be a tag telling you if the series was complete and if all episodes were available or not.

I think this would go best where you have the Studio and Genre info. Just add two more lines, one saying “Status” and it would show Ended, Cancelled, or Ongoing. If possible, maybe more information like “5 Seasons - Ongoing”.

Then the second line could say “Library” and the data would say “All episodes available”, or “Missing Episodes”. Or for a super clean look, Status and Library could be combined into Status, such as; “Show Ended, library incomplete”, or “Show Cancelled, library complete”, or “Unknown season count, Unknown episode count” if the number of seasons or episodes are unknown.

I would also like these features mentioned in all post above, as well as retaining old watched episode tracking (but deleted from library).

Any ideas when this might be implemented?

S

I believe that this, specifically, already exists today.

When deleting items from a Library, the watched status is preserved. If the items are added back, the old watched status is still present.

@Volts
Thanks, however I meant that without adding back media, the history is maintained and is viewable anytime.

The main reason for this is when a series is deleted (for disk space reasons), and then it returns mid-season or next season, it would be great to know where to continue from viewing based on watched status.

I don’t understand!

Wouldn’t you start viewing at the new episodes, which haven’t been watched yet?
