TV Show Metadata Auto Changing

Ever since I have had Plex (Almost 2 years now) no matter what version I have had this issue. I re do lots of my metadata manually after it auto detects for both my movies and tv shows quite often. My Movies have never gave me an issue, and have never changed since I have Auto added or manually changed the Metadata. My TV Shows are a different story. Sometimes its in 1 week, and sometimes its in 3 months, but some of my TV shows revert back to the auto Metadata it grabbed. I find PLEX messes up the TV Shows quite often but putting one of the seasons posters as the main poster, etc. I have asked around, checked every setting and nothing. Why is this happening. It always seems to be the same TV shows that revert back every so often. I cant figure this out and its getting very frustrating. Every time this happens I have about an hours of Metadata changing to do.

  1. Instead of manually changing metadata, do it right and name and organise your files according to the recommendation. https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/
    This usually resolves the majority of your issues.

  2. for shows where the automatic matching and metadata downloading doesn’t work, it is absolutely cricial that you do the following before adding your custom metadata manually:
    Perform the ‘Match/Fix Match’ procedure on the whole show. Let it ‘Auto-Match’ to the ‘Personal Media Shows’ agent.
    This is telling Plex that it should not try to match this show anymore automatically, during which a part of your manually edited metadata can get lost.

Just to be clear, when I say that I’m changing my metadata manually, I’m still using metadata from Plex. I’m just clicking the edit icon and selecting a different poster and different season posters when they populate the incorrect ones. I don’t add my own art saved from my PC.

OK, then there is something else:
Setttings - Server - Library - ‘Empty trash automatically after every scan’
must be off, if your media storage is not inside the Plex media server device.

Are you saying I MUST have it turned off, or that it must be off and I should turn it on. Sorry, Im reading it weird and just want to be clear before I check it and possibly change it.

You must turn it off. Never turn this on, if your media storage is outside the server machine.
