TV Show view does not show TV shows but shows all seasons

I on the request of a friend created a Plex Library “TV Shows SF” as he is a Science Fiction fan. The weird thing is that when I use the view “TV Shows” from the dropdown menu TV Shows (TV Shows – Seasons – Episodes) I get to see all the seasons (no aggregation to show). I don’t have theis problem with my library “TV Shows” that contains all the TV Shows I have. And yes both libraries are set up identically and they reference to the same files on my server. Any suggestions?

Server Version#: 4.47.3
Player Version#: 7.11

How did you determine which shows should show up in the “TV Shows SF” library?

Well I added them to the library manually and as I stated the Plex TV Show view shows all the TV shows but sadly only all the seasons.

If you add the individual folders of the tv show, Plex is missing a folder level. Resulting in the effect you are experiencing.
You should only add a folder to a Plex library, which in turn contains the folders of individual shows.
Which means you’d need to seriously reorganise your tv show folders if you want to serve a special SciFi library to your friend.

This would work:

\regular shows <-- add to the regular library
   \ show 1
   \ show 2
   \ show 3
   ...
\scifi shows <-- add to both the regular and your friend's library
   \scifi show 1
   \scifi show 2
   \scifi show 3
   ...

Just adding, if you want all shows in your regular TV shows library you would add both the Regular and SciFi folders to the library.

Sorry I probably was not clear in my answer. The file structure on my server is as Follows:

  • Media
    • TV Shows
      • TV Show 1
        • TV Show 1 Season 01
        • TV Show 1 Season 02
      • TV Show 2
        • TV Shows 2 Season 01
        • TV Show 2 Season 02
    • TV Shows SF
      • TV Show 1
        • TV Show 1 Season 01
        • TV Show 1 Season 02
      • T2V Show 2
        • TV Show 2 Season 01
        • TV Show 2 Season 02

In both libraries the Folders TV Show 1 and TV Show 2 have been added. As I said it works fine for the library containing all TV Shows. Not so much for the library TV Show SF.

Not sure what you are referring to here.
When you define your Plex libraries, you must only point them to the folders TV Shows and TV Shows SF respectively.

Do you have either library using the folder TV Shows SF?

OK I’ll try again. My apologies for the confusion. I use a server on which all my media files are stored. All according to the Plex naming guidelines. I have a Plex library TV Series containing a large number of TV Shows. This has worked just fine for years (new TV Shows and updates to existing TV Shows on a daily basis). I created a new library TV Series SF that contains a subset of the TV Shows in the library TV Series. The format and structure (obviously referencing less TV Shows) of TV Series SF is the same as that of TV Series. I really don’t understand why the view “TV Shows” is the same as the view “Seasons” (it shows all seasons in the library).

Ok, you have two TV show folders;
\Media\TV Shows
and
\Media\TV Shows SF

TV Series is using both of the folders above.
TV Series SF is using only \Media\TV Shows SF.
Is thst correct?

Can you post a screenshot of the library settings showing the folders used?

Are you saying that you copied the video files from the folder of the general TV shows library to the folder of the SF library?

No. I created a library TV Series SF and used the standard “manage library - edit - add folders” function to add folders to the library TV Series SF. Exactly the same way I add folders to the main library TV Series. Works just fine as it has for many years. The only difference is that if I use the view “TV Shows” the TV Series library shows me an overview of the TV series as it should. When I use the view “TV Shows” theTV Series SF shows an overview of all the seasons of the individual TV Shows. And I have no idea why. The library parameters are identical for both libraries.

How many folders did you add to the TV Shows SF library?

53 folders (TV shows)

So you did add each show individually after all? i.e. exactly what you should not do?
Or do you have 53 different tv show genres (or some other category)?

There should be one.
\Media\TV Shows SF
