Is there any plan to support extras for shows like Game of Thrones? Its very frustrating that there is no manual override. If its not in thetvdb, then there is no way to show it in Plex Library.
For Game of Thrones, there are so many featurettes for each season. But I have tried everything, it just does not seem to recognize them. I created a folder under the season 01 and tried to give it different names thinking Plex might recognize one of the names. But nothing worked.
Is there a way to show whatâs in the folder? I guess that might work for this case. I am OK with that.
Thanks for your response. Yes I am aware of the season 00. However, if you go to TVDB, they have about 43 specials that you can do. But I am talking about Bluray Extras. There are tons of them for each season. There is history & lore, back stories, character profiles, making of various episodes, etc. So my question is how do I see them? Is there an option to have video files that donât match theTVDB and still be able to see them somehow? Currently I am unable to figure that out. So that is what I am looking for. I am even willing to add them to the TVDB for benefit of others but GOT is locked there. Not sure how to reach out to the moderators.
Donât know if it helps, you could try this (YMMV), but this is what I did with an extra for GOT (before it made it to the TVDB)
Create a Specials Folder in your Series folder, and add your extras into that folder. I think the Naming is important.
So if these extras are not in the TVDB I suggest to keep the numbering quite high, so as not to conflict with any new entries that get added to the TVDB
e.g.
â Specials
---- Game of Thrones - s00e101 - Title of my first extra.ext
---- Game of Thrones - s00e102 - Title of my second extra.ext
---- Game of Thrones - s00e103 - Title of my third extra.ext
(of course .ext will depend on the format of your files, mp4 or mkv etc)
These will then âhopefullyâ show up as specials in the GOT Series in Plex
I canât remember if plex used the title or if I had to rename it in Plex after it had scanned it in, so I would try just one or 2 extras to start with in case you need to manually rename them.
Are you sure those instructions NewPlaza linked to work for TV libraries,
I thought they were just for movie libraries?
They did not seem to work for me when I tried on a TV show.
Hello NewPlaza and TeknoJunky, I tried following that link but it did not work for me for TVShows. It works fine for Movies but NOT for TV Shows. Maybe I am missing something. Have you done it successfully on your server? Can you share how you did it? I created the folders the way that support link shows, but it did not work for me.
I think folks replying with links are not understanding the fundamental issue. The issue is that each season has its own set of Extras. So you cannot really club them in a single âSpecialsâ or season 00 type of folder. I agree this is a very unique situation because most TV Shows donât have season extras but Game of Thrones got released on Blu Ray. Therefore it is has all that.
Anyway, the short term solution is to put them in Season 00, and then manually rename them to S00E101, S00E102, etc. to designate Season 1 extras and then for season 2, you could do S00E201, S00E202, etc. I just tried that for a couple and they seem to work.
Note: I did not S00E11, S00E12, etc. be cause the TVDB already has about 45 extras there. Hopefully they wonât reach 100 extras.
I understand, but that is not something that Plex can handle, and so I am just trying to provide work arounds.
Also, as the TVDB has only one way of categorising non episodes, as specials / season 00 they would all need to be in the same to folder to be matched by the TVDB even if all the dvd extras were there.
If you want the extras in the Season folders, then the same logic may work (but I canât test at the moment)
You could try by adding the Season extras into the Season folders with similar naming e.g.
S01E101 - Extra One
S01E102 - Extra Two
etc⊠and see if they get listed in the Seasons.
They will. Though they wonât have an âair dateâ so you are going to need edit those by hand if you want plex to list them in chronologically order OnDeck or whatnot.
If an âepisodeâ you have doesnât appear in TheTVDB (e.g. DVD Specials or goof reel), place this content in the Season 00 or Specials folder named using s00eYY using a false âYYâ number (e.g.: Heroes s00e99). The show will be available to play in a Plex App but wonât have any special metadata such as posters, etc.
Sorry I was not clear. I was just responding one of the comments above âYou canât. Throw them away or do what @blim5001 suggested.â All I was saying was that once I was able to put them in the Season 00 folder with the S00E110 type naming convention, I was able to see them. Then I actually moved them within each season they showed up there too. Not the best way, because it does clutter the screen but at least they are all there, organized under the season and I am able to play them. Too much manual work required though.
So I did not have to throw them away and I am able watch them.
Cool.
fyi. You can save a step by simply naming them s0Xe110 and placing them in respective season xx folder.
You can actually have 1 episode before the season starts(eg. S01E00) and have as many after a season ends(eg. S01EXXXXXXX). Iâve done this many times before I started to edit thetvdb myself. Hope I didnât make it sound to confusing.
