TV shows showing up in Movies List

I have some TV shows showing up in my list for movies. My folders are not nested (so my Televison folder is not within the Movies folder) and the wierd thing is, I have several tv shows in my television folder, but only a few of the shows are showing in the movies list…so it isn’t all of the tv shows (over 50 so far) just 7 of them.

The root of a movie library must point to a folder that only contains movies or sub folders that only contain movies and TV Libraries must point to a folder that only contains TV shows.

TV Libraries should follow this format as closely as possible:
TV Shows <— The library points here
---------TV Show Name (Year first aired if needed) <— This folder holds the season folders
------------------Season 01 <— This folder holds all the episodes for season 01
-------------------------ShowName - s01e01 - Episode Name.ext
-------------------------ShowName - s01e02 - Episode Name.ext
-------------------------And so on for the rest of season 01
------------------Season 02 <— This folder holds all the episodes for season 02
-------------------------ShowName - s02e01 - Episode Name.ext
-------------------------ShowName - s02e02 - Episode Name.ext
-------------------------And so on for the rest of season 02
------------------Season 03 <— This folder holds all the episodes for season 03
-------------------------ShowName - s03e01 - Episode Name.ext
-------------------------ShowName - s03e02 - Episode Name.ext
-------------------------And so on for the rest of season 03

Note: The year after the show name is only normally needed or desired if there is more that one show with exactly the same name. Check http://thetvdb.com/ if you are not sure and match exactly the name used there.

There are naming methods other than the above that work but this does work 99.9% of the time.
If you are going to use Plex it is best to use the proper naming conventions so Plex makes the best match possible. Trying to force Plex to use other naming methods is just asking for frustration.

Movie libraries are actually more forgiving and should follow the guidelines at:

There should be no TV shows anywhere in the directory structure that is below the folder where the Movie library points and there should be no movie files below the folder where the TV library points.

Movie libraries are more forgiving as far as structure and nesting is concerned but it is usually a good idea to keep the nesting fairly shallow.

If this does not help you need to post exactly how the files are named and exactly what the structure is.

This is exactly how I have my files structured.

Here is an example:

PLEX
Movies
CrouchingTigerHiddenDragon
CrouchingTigerHiddenDragon.mp4
Television
The Critic
Season 1
TheCritic-s01e01.mp4

But as stated before…I have other shows in the Television folder and they are not showing on the Movies page…only a few of these shows are showing on the movies page.

Do you have you movie library pointing at “PLEX” or at “Movies?” It should be pointing at “Movies.”

In that structure the only way your Movie Library would be picking up the show “The Critic” would be if the movie library had “PLEX” as its root.

Edit: As far as some TV shows not being picked up it could just be that Plex cannot find a match to them as a movie.

I’ll check…but it should be pointing at Movies…not Plex. I’ll check and see…thanks

You were right…my Movie library was pointing at Plex, rather than the movies folder. I corrected it and now those shows are gone…only my movies are now showing. Thanks for the help!

I have this issue where my tv files are under movies but my file structure is to direct folders as recommended.
eg.

harddrive 1
(Plex) Movies 1 > (Computer) Movies

harddrive 2
(Plex) TV Shows 1 > (Computer) TV Shows

So the plex app points to 2 different hard drive locations yet harddrive 2 files are showing under the browsing for harddrive 1

So I am unsure wtf is happening.

My suspicion is that it is still syncing files and has confused itself. I will wait a few hours for this sync to update itself and maybe that will help. Will come back to update :slight_smile:
