TV spin off series issues: 2 file paths for some reason

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

I have this show that has a spin off season, but the plex server will only find the original show in the “TV show” viewing format that allows the “Fix match” button to appear. In the “Folder” viewing format the spin off series shows the episode names and images for the first season of the original show, but still plays the spin off series when played… except for a few episodes for seemingly no reason. Attached is an image of the “get info” button of one of these troublesome episodes. It seems to have two file paths and every time I “delete files” (seen here) and reupload them the same thing happens. It doesn’t seem to matter if the folder is in the original shows folder or outside of it the problem remains. PLEASE HELP THIS NOOB!

Sincerely,
Noob

My 1st guess would be bad embedded metadata.
Though… looking at how the shows are named on TVDb, you might want to check you’re using the actual name of the show (as listed on TVDb/TMDb to avoid conflicts (TVDb is listing Sword Oratoria as Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? One the Side: Sword Oratoria; on TMDb it’s listed as DanMachi: Sword Oratoria… in line with the main show being named as DanMachi: Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon… long story short: including the TVDb or TMDb ID in the show’s folder name might help avoiding accidental mismatches)

Some other remarks:

  • if you include a TVDb, TMDb or IMDb reference in the show’s folder name, make sure to put it in curly brackets (e.g. /media/TV/Sword Oratoria {tvdb-321670}/)
  • to improve the match quality you can include the year the show first aired in the show’s folder (e.g. /media/TV/Sword Oratoria (2017) {tvdb-321670}/)
  • don’t include unnecessary numbering in your files (e.g. drop the leading 2. in those episode file names

Thanks for your help! Unfortunately none of these suggestions seemed to work for my issue. I tried the { } brackets, folder and file name changes nothing seemed to work. In fact it seems to have spread to other episodes D: . Any other suggestions?

Just to add to the mystery this is also happening for half (s02e01-13) of a season of a show where the first season will appear instead of the second season :s. Not sure what I’m doing wrong here

Your files for season 1 are not named like a TV show episode.

Your Season nn folders should always use 2-digit numbers.

Perform the Plex dance after mismatches and subsequent file renamings.

I tried that as well, but it does not seem to fix this. Unless I need to delete and reupload them again. I will try that and get back to you.

Check the Plex dance instruction linked in Otto’s post (last line).

the plex Dance seems to be the answer! Thanks so much y’all!
