TVDB shows incorrect episode listing

Server Version#: 1.12.3.4973
Player Version#: Atv4

I’ve never experienced this before. The show is call FireFly. It ran only one season with 14 episodes. Even though I have the correct file naming i.e. ‘Firefly - s01e01.name of show.m4v’ , when they loaded up PMS and TVDB is used the episodes are out of order. EX) it shows real episode 2 as episode 1. I can even use the sort title to align them correctly, its just ignored. Has anyone else run into this phenonium?

Yes it happens when the airing order is different than the DVD (written) order. I’m not sure if there’s an option of forcing it to the other. Looks like for this show, thetvdb is using airing order instead of DVD order.

See: https://forums.thetvdb.com/viewtopic.php?t=48414

From other posts on the subject it would appear that thetvdb’s API does support selecting DVD order over airing order, but I don’t know if the default PMS tv agent supports it.

When viewing your library, click the little pencil in the bottom right of the show poster to edit it

Select the advanced option at the bottom left

In the right hand box there should be a box for Episode ordering, change this from Airing order to DVD order

BINGO! That did it! Thanks a bunch, Paul !

Good to hear it worked

You might have to Refresh Metadata after changing the episode ordering.

It will also not work with all tv shows, so changing to DVD ordering by default is not advisable.

I am trying to do apply DVD Ordering to the Blu-Ray release of Happy Endings, since TheTVDB has the original televised order, which was incorrect—they were aired out of order. I do not see any Advanced Options under the pencil icon to allow for this. Can someone please advise?

it’s available on the show level.

Thank you! This needs to be a library setting.

This won’t do much good, because:

  • Many/most of the shows don’t have a DVD order stored at TheTVDB
  • some of those which do, have sub-episodes/double-episodes which Plex doesn’t support

I was thinking more along the lines of a ‘default’, if it is present. Obviously, the edge cases can fall out and revert to the ‘normal’ ordering.

Now I need to figure out how to get the special names to show up in Plex…
