Every episode that is split into several #.# parts, will not pull metadata.
I don’t know if Plex or the TVDB needs to fix this or if y’all need to work together on some sort of “standard” but it gets really annoying manually fixing stuff because of this.
the TVDB is a user (meaning you) maintained database. If there are valid corrections to make, you can make them. If the show, or season, is locked, you can message the TVDB staff and plead your case.
The TVDB is based upon aired tv dates. The tv aired dated ordering will win out in the end whether we like it or not. As will what the episodes are and contain regardless of how they are re-aired or packaged on DVDs.
For what it’s worth I was having no luck getting any correct DVD order for seasons 2-5 of Combat! (funny enough it got season 1 fine) Tried everything that people on the forums said to do with no luck. I did have to finally get on TVDB and add the season number to those seasons, but still no luck. I finally pulled out the DVDOrder Plugin.bundle agent that someone made a couple years ago. Installed it and did a fix match using that agent. Got everything and in the right order. I think there is some bugginess to the built-in DVD Order in PMS.
It’s a shame that this is still an issue. Why should I have to rely on a plugin that hasn’t been updated in forever to get basic functionality? oh well. Here’s hoping it makes it to the top of their bug list Someday™.

but what changes can be made to tvdb to correct this? I dont mind editing shows to get them to show correctly but I think the problem is an episode will contain 2 or 3 episodes in one file and plex wont show the info for the other episode or 2. Truly the problem is the way tvdb names these it seems default is the dvd numbering of each individual episode seperate compared to aired method of 2 or 3 together aired at once.

Correct, but what’s the TVDB gonna do? Change a standard they’ve enforced on 100s to 1000s of shows? That’s not gonna happen.
Plex clearly just needs to change how their scanner works to works like the 3rd-party one that does work. This is clearly a solvable problem, it just really needs to be done…
or in case of Battlestar Galactica you simply switch back to the order by air date. both versions have the exact same sequence of episodes and there’s no odd-shaped episode codes this way.
