So i upgraded to 1.7.1 today. Since I have had issues with shows being hung. If i go the look at the recording schedule i just see the red dot with the orange circle around it. If i click on the show it says it recorded fine. Now is a good 41 min after a partial recording of a 30 min show for my daughter. and another completed 12 min ago and stuck.
Is anyone else seeing this.
The first one finally moved forward to be playable but it is only 8 min long.
Im having the same problem, I have a 1 min recording of a 60 minute show and a 23min recording of a 2.5 hrs show
just looked at all my other recording and since most recent update they are only recording a few minutes of each show. PMS running on my Synology
So the shows finally completed what ever post processing they were doing. appears to take a few hours. It appears to be doing some transcoding and not just remuxing to the MKV as the files are much smaller then they were in the past. I have also noticed allot more video corruption now then in the past. It has made most of the videos unwatchable.
Ok some some interesting information.
First my server is still doing this with almost every recording. Basically they record and sit in what looks like limbo for some time. Eventually they appear to complete and show up in the library. The size of the files is way to small to be the full content. When trying to view the content the shows appaer to work for a time and then just become unwatchable. They Pixelate and essentially look almost scrambled. They also jump through the video at times jumping many seconds or minutes.
Intersting thing is i setup a few records on my Shields PMS. Content seems to record there fine, be full size that is expected, and immediately be avaliable. This problem seems to be related to my PMS on my WHS install. It is very strange. This is the same WHS install i have used for years and plays back content perfectly fine including very high bitrate content that would be very demanding.
So I did further testing yesterday. I setup the dvr on my legacy HTPC which is running Windows 8.1. It also recorded fine. So this is something specific to my windows home server install. I have yet to identify what part it is though. As part of my troubleshooting yesterday I replaced Ethernet cables, upgraded the plex pms service, and upgraded the video card drivers. With no improvements.
Mine does this and my PMS is running on a Synology. I’m going to trt removing the DVR from PMS and re adding to see if it fixes it this weekend
Actually that was something I missed in my previous post. I also followed the directions to completely remove the plex PMS from my server and went back to default everything. That is what actually lead me down the path to cabeling and hardware. My server does do allot so it is possible there is a software conflict as well. I am almost to the point of trying to do a reload of windows home server and clean up the boot drive. I have kept this install for a long time. With all I do with this system it may be time for some major cleanup.
Actually it may be time for freenas, or simply hardware upgrade with win10. Only thing that I really like about WHS is the baremetal backup/restore, but that need can be worked around.
I think we are all having this problem with the recent update that switched the recordings from TS to MKV. My Synology NAS is also having similar problems.
Not sure I would say all. The fact I can run the PMS on my nvidia shield TV, or my HTPC( a windows 8.1 box with MCE) and the content is fine means allot of folks could run it and have no issues.
So i managed to find a way to fix my issue. It wasn’t elegant, but a reload of my system with a clean install of WHS and the components needed for Plex seems to have done the trick. The sad part is this means it is something with the additional software on the box. I am going to gradually load everything back and see if the problems comes back or goes away for good.
The good news is that i was able to maintain my Plex data directory and everything is good now. So it was nothing to do with plex. That is good and bad because i don’t have to start from scratch on plex, but something else on the box will likely cause it again once it is loaded. Will keep this thread updated if i find out what it is in my setup.
