Two movies showing as one in Plex

Server Version#: 1.16.3.1402
Player Version#:N/A

I have two versions of ‘The BFG’ on my server. I’ve named them as ‘The BFG (2016)’ and ‘The BFG (1989)’ but Plex insists on showing them both as ‘The BFG’ with a poster made from both. And yet, if I click into details it will show both as if they are two episodes and there’s no option to split them. Any suggestions, please?

FYI, IMDB has the older version as 1987, not 1989.

Do you have Collections enabled? It seems you might have the library set to “Hide items which are in collections.”

Edit the library, select Advanced, check the setting for Collections.

Change to desired setting.

If not a Collections issue:

Do you have the movies in separate folders? While not mandatory, it can help sometimes.

/Movies
   /The BFG (1987)
      /The BFG (1987).ext
   /The BFG (2016)
      /The BFG (2016).ext

If you rename/re-organize the movies, be sure and Plex Dance the one you changed/moved. This will clear incorrect info from Plex’s database.

In Plex Web, you should see an option to split the movies from the pre-play page. Click on the three vertical dots in the upper right corner. You should then see Split Apart in the drop down menu.

Thank you so much - it was a collections issue. I spent so much time on this yesterday and you’ve fixed it in a couple of clicks. I’m learning more about Plex all the time.

You are right that IMDB shows the original as 1987 and that’s what I had originally. But when searching for a match the Plex Movie database was showing 1989 so I changed it to match in case that had a bearing.
