Two (multi) part videos will only play first part

Fire TV will no longer play the second part of a two part movie.

I am able to play it correctly on the Web GUI. If I try to force the chapter or continue at a time beyond the first part, it simply bails out, taking me to the preview screen of the movie.
It has managed to perform this is the past with out issue for years. So what has changed?

Server Version#: 1.20.1.3252
Player Version#: 8.6.0.20351 (e97d660a)

Keep in mind not all clients/players support stacked files (multi-file videos). Not 100% sure if the Fire TV client should be able to.
The safest way forward with multi-file videos is to append / merge them before adding them to Plex (e.g. using MKVToolNix).

Keep in mind that you should always read the entire post. It clearly said It has managed to perform this is the past without issue for years
Keep in mind a generic scripted response that basically says “meh, maybe it just doesn’t work”, is not helpful. All it does is add unwanted and unhelpful comments to an issue, clogging real responses and detracting from the real issue at hand. Stop it!
Keep in mind a third party workaround is not a true workaround. Especially when it ignores the true issue at hand. Stop it!
Keep in mind, when you type “Not 100% sure…”, you are entering into the world of supposition, guessing and anecdotal evidence. It should be a sign for you to stop typing, or better, not post! Stop it!

Keep in mind your response summarised says this: meh, maybe it just doesn't work. I don't know what the problem is, so here is a third party solution outside the scope of plex, that you may or may not be able to do and will not do anything to fix something broken in plex, thereby making the issue worse.

Keep in mind, I would mark your response with negative feedback and mark as spam if I were able to do so.

Do not waste everyone’s time with meaningless responses.

Curb it down a notch. You interpret too much emotion and malicious intentions into my response.

It appears to be a confirmed issue with the new player in the Plex for Android app.
If you switch back to the old player in the advanced settings of the Plex client, the stacked file should be working as expected.

I stand to my post… the safe route with stacked files is to merge them.
Saying “it used to work” is no guarantee it’ll always work.

Negative!
Now the video will not start at all!
Next…?

Out of powder without further input from your end.
What type of media is this about?

Thanks for all your help!

To everyone out there experiencing this issue, I apologise for not forcing the issue in this thread, but my confidence was drained by someone who only wanted to provide generic scripted responses with links to other issues and not actually address the issue at hand, as clearly stated by the title and original post. The issue is not solved. I hope others have better luck with their inquiries and from whosoever they receive responses.
Good luck!

For the record:

  • Plex on the FireTV device was (is?) capable of playing stacked (multi part) videos. It has done so for many years, on both the old and more recently on the new player.
  • I am aware I can join/merge/edit video files to create a single file, but that was not the issue. This may also cause issues with file size, particularly for libraries kept on FAT32 file system with a 4GB file size limit. If Plex choose to no longer support the multi part feature, make an announcement let us know it is dropping a very handy feature.
  • By changing my settings in plex to use the old player, it will not suddenly be a video format/codec issue. I know and understand the differences, and I have plenty of files with which to check both players. Insulting us with a link to Media Formats is unwarranted.
  • I have power cycled the device, I have force stoppped the app, I have cleared the cache, none of which resolved the issue.
I DID NOT reinstall app nor did I disconnect the player from my account (which is what a “Clear data” would do!)
  • I am still unable to play the subsequent parts of any stacked (Multi-part) video

Should anyone with the knowledge base and a keen interest to resolving the issue, (@tom80H need not bother) please contact me.

Cheers
