Type in the channel numbers+return button enable

When using a universal remote is it possible to make the Return (to last channel) work?

More importantly type in the channel numbers? One of the main reasons why i can’t cut the cord because my wife would rather type in the channels she likes.

I’m in the same boat after switching from Windows Media Center with the WAF.

I completely understand that not all platforms will support something like this (for example, the Apple TV 4 remote out of the box does not support a number pad) but for the Media Players for Windows, where you can have a full IR remote experience (Logitech Harmony using the Windows Media Center platform or old WMC remotes), there’s no reason not to add support for direct channel navigation using a number entry or even the last/return button.

Wait is there a way to modify the apple tv to type in numbers?

No there is not (assuming you mean for channel numbers). More generally, if you use the remote app on an iDevice you can enter anything via the keyboard.

Ughh Apple sucks. I guess I need to get a nvidia shield.

Or set up a Harmony Hub / Remote (from Logitech).

That would work on Apple tv?!

Also anyone know if channel selection works on Xbox one?

Currently Plex does not support typing in a number for channel selection. On any app.

Yes, the Harmony remote works for the Apple TV as well. However you’re not going to get number entry for channel selection because the Plex apps don’t support it.

No, the IR implementation for the Apple TV does not support it, not the Plex App. For IR to the Apple TV, all you’ll get are the basic arrow functions, select, and a “home” and “back” button.
My point is that I realize that not every platform supports every function, that’s fine, but for the platforms that CAN support number entry and such, Plex should implement it.

This thread is specifically about Apple TV; you should probably create a new Feature Request for those platforms.

I agree that this is a much needed feature that would benefit all of the cord cutters.
