Ubuntu server + Xbox client + confusing network -> unable to connect

Hi all,

I've got plex running on my Ubuntu laptop; I've had no problems casting to my Chromecast or my other computers before or currently.

I recently obtained an Xbox 360, and the Plex app, and I can't make them talk to each other: "There was an error communicating with your Plex Media Server. Make sure it's turned on and accessible and try again."

Under the server's settings, I get this:

"You have successfully signed your server in to Plex, but we were unable to reach it from outside your network.

If you would like to enable this now, you will need to configure your router or firewall to allow Plex to contact your server. Please refer to our Connecting a Server article for more information."

I've set the port to be manually 32400, which I read elsewhere might help; it didn't.

My server version is 0.9.11.1 -- I just updated it today.

My network is a tad confusing: I have a router which I control, which all devices are connected to over wireless (the same wireless network, not split across 5GHz / 2.4GHz). The router is controlled to another router over WAN, which I don't control.

I've set up uPNP and also added a manual port forward for plex: I can access the server from my public IP address (eg 1.2.3.4:32400/manage/index.html, or whatever it is) -- this works totally fine. But I still get the aformentioned errors.

On the Xbox, under Servers & Settings, I can see my Ubuntu plex server, with a green dot. But if I try to connect to it, I get the error from before.

I don't seem to be in a double NAT situation: my router's WAN IP is the same as my laptop's public IP. Maybe I misunderstood that situation though.

I've tried rebooting both Xbox and Ubuntu server.

So basically: my server /seems/ to be accessible, given that I can access it from my public IP address; but it's not working.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Oh wow -- logging in and out of Plex on the Xbox worked. Can't believe I didn't try that already.
