The latest update on the Android Play store has broken the UI scaling when I use the Rokid Max 2 glasses with the Station 2. The initial splash screen when Plex appears looks normal. When displaying the main interface the UI appears as a Window like screen on the top left corner of the display in the glasses, with text being cut off etc… When playing a video it still keeps the view in the small compressed window-like display.
I tested Netflix to see if it was an issue with the Station 2 but that displays properly. I see a similar report on these forums that a similar issue is happening when using Samsung DEX display.
Another issue which has been a problem for a long time is that when playing a video the playback controls don’t appear when I use the touch-pad functionality of the Rokid Station 2. The only workaround was having to Zoom-In on the video to get rid of the black bars when viewing a widescreen video then Zoom-Out. When pressing the touchpad after doing this the playback controls would appear but only for a short amount of time before not working again. Then have to repeat the process of zooming in and out to get them to appear again. It was a bug I was putting up with but now with the UI display being broken the Plex app is completely unusable when using AR glasses.
I would like to downgrade the app to a working version, but on an apkmirror site I need to install additional software to unpack it when installing. Can the people at Plex offer a download section for previous app releases to mitigate bugs introduced with new updates? Or will the next update fix these issues?
Thanks for making the report. I’d recommend trying out using Plex with AR glasses like Rokid, Xreal, Viture etc… if you can. It’s like having a personal cinema screen.
The exact same thing has happened to me with Xreal glasses and the Beam pro. Video is completely unwatchable, and playback controls have been missing forever. Please fix it.
Wait what? I was about to buy Beam pro hoping i can now watch my videos, but since Beam pro has the same issue i guess i’ll pass.
Plex has to fix this already yesterday!
Rigjt, that’s what i meant. I am not watching on the phone without glasses. I thought that maybe with Beam pro + glasses it works since it is not dex but other tech. Now i see it is not dex exclusive bug.
AR glasses have been broken and Plex unwatchable since the last Android update. More than two weeks ago. When are you going to downgrade the current version in the play store back to the previous version to fix the scaling issue?
Thanks for looking into it. I’m not sure if it’s related, but I saw on the Windows section of the forum a user switching the player from one monitor to another monitor with a different resolution caused the Plex window to squash to a corner of the screen.
With the Station 2 android player, once Plex is opened it opens as a dedicated standalone app due to DRM (which the Station 2 is certified at a hardware level). This switch from the Station 2 normal environment to an isolated full screen display on the glasses may be causing the incorrect full screen render of the app because of a switch to full resolution? I’m not sure, but if it’s happening on the display output using Samsung DEX, then it may also happen if Plex is output to any monitor or video display that has a USB-C input, as the function of AR glasses is essentially a secondary display connected to a source device or computer.
I will make a note of that in report but the issue with the Windows Desktop app I think would not be related. The desktop app uses MPV as a backend player and qt for the UI, neither of which the Android app uses.
The issue is also a problem for any second screen using the USBc port. Can you please provide a way to reinstall a previous working version of the app.
