Somewhere down the line the content restrictions for younger / older kid stopped displaying “U” rating movies - so most of the kids movies are no longer unavailable for my kids. (United Kingdom “U” is equivalent to US “G” rating, I believe).
I have tried switching my libraries to US content rating and refreshing meta data, but a lot of the movies that have a U content rating still have a U content rating instead of changing to a ‘G’.
I then tried choosing an entirely different content rating for my libraries, and then switching to US and then refreshing meta data again, but that didn’t;t help.
Update - I tried changing the media library content rating to Canada and refreshing meta data and that seemed to work (there were still about 40 movies that were stuck at “U” and will need to be manually changed) and I now have several content ratings I don’t immediately recognise and will google to understand what they mean.
However: User Content Restrictions are definitely broken and they need to recognise the Metadata field of Content Rating with a field value of “U” as being equivalent to “G”. Perhaps, for example, a manager or developer has misconstrued “U” as “Unrated”.
Two I remember (I have changed the rest of the manually) are:
Secret life of pets
Mary Poppins (the original)
It doesn’t really matter what the film is, any film with a U rating will not be included by the content filter and so it won’t be made available on a child profile (which it should be).
Ok - that’s interesting, so potentially an issue in my system or configuration then… although I am not the first person to report this issue on these forums (but may be more of an intermittent bug which are always a joy to resolve). I have laid out more concisely what the primary issue for me is:
Primary issue: Movies with a ‘U’ rating not visible on child profiles.
With the content filter applied the ‘U’ movies were filtered out and not available on younger kid or older kids profiles.
As a work around I changed to a different rating system so that these movies are now rated ‘G’.
The content filter now correctly shows the ‘G’ rated movies on the younger and older kids profiles.
Secondary issue: Rating system change not updating movie ratings
Switching rating systems (I chose a random one and then US) did not update any of the movies in the library to the new ratings. Switching to Canada rating system then moved most of the movies. There were still about 40 that I had to manually change from ‘U’ to ‘G’.
I have been using the Plex Agent (not the legacy one). I am testing out changing to The Movie Database and seeing if that makes a difference when switching back to UK Content Ratings.
