I completely disagree with you @SamVen . I am currently on a trip and took the e-mail seriously and changed my password without knowing it would make me have to reclaim my server. Now I have no way of accessing my library from abroad.
Plex could’ve issued a WARNING on the e-mail notifying us this would happen.
This was a HUGE FAIL from Plex. They could’ve warned.
How do I get plex to work?
I deleted that account and opened a new one, but I still cannot get the media server to work.
On what operating system is your Plex Media Server installed? The thread was opened as Synology but has become a dumping ground for pretty much everything.
I do not know what synology is. I have opened plex on my web browser and it won’t let me access my music library. When I uninstall and reinstall the media sever, I try to open it and nothing happens.
It is a windows 11 computer
I’m not a Windows guy (i’m the linux guy)
IIRC, your server will be there to be claimed.
I did a writeup on how to edit the registry but cannot find it here in the forums (so many posts)
FOUND IT!
This erases the bad credentials (old stored password & token) so you can reclaim it.
I put in screenshots.
What @ChuckPa suggested. Or, just find the Plex icon in your system tray, right click on it, and select “Open Plex.” If your Plex server isn’t claimed, it will ask you to log in. That will automatically claim it.
Thanks. I knew there had to be an easy way
Yep, super-easy. On macOS, it’s very similar. In the menu bar (at the top-right) you can find the Plex icon. Similarly, you can right-click it, select “Open Plex,” log in when asked, and Bob’s your uncle.
That does not work.
It does now show “Your Media” at the bottom of the list, but all it does is send me in an endless circle of downloading Plex Media Server, with no way to actually access my music files
Did you try my separate suggestion?
I do not know what any of that means.
What is a system tray, and where do I find it?
On the server itself (the Windows machine where you run the server), find the notification area (also known as the system tray). It’s at the bottom-right of the screen, where the clock is.
In there you should find the Plex icon (it’s grey/black and orange). You may have to click the ^ to see it. Right-click the Plex icon and select “Open Plex.” This should open your default browser window with an option to log into Plex. Do so. Once yo do your server will be claimed.
OK, I found it, and right clicked, then open plex. All it dd was take me back to the home page. Nothing has changed. It still includes Your Media on the bottom of the list, but clicking on that just tells me to download plex media server, which I have done dozens of times already. It gives me no way to actually view my music files.
Ok then, option two.
Open Windows Explorer (the file browser). In the navigation bar, enter exactly this:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server
The resulting list should include a file named “Setup Plex.” Double-click it.
If that doesn’t work, you may need to resort to this:
That opened a new window and it has said “Initializing Plex Media Server” with a spinning circle for several minutes
Now it says something went wrong, make sure the server is available and try again.
Reboot the Windows system and try again. It may be that there are other underlying problems.
