Unable to access WD PR4100 server

I’m a newbie at this, but I’m trying to access some files on the PR4100 network through the Plex server on my desktop. The network is listed in the Plex drop-down box but greyed out with a red triangle. How do I access it?

Plex has to be able to read/write the location. I have a WD MyCloud and all my media are under Public so my devices and Plex servers can access them easily.

My files are all within the Public folder but the server still remains greyed out when I try and access the 4100 under Plex.

Can you provide some screenshots of what your having issues with?

Here you go:

That typically shows that way when the Plex server is off. How many servers do you have and are you running a Plex server on the PR4100 or just using it to store your media?

I only have the PR4100. I’m not running Plex on it… I have Plex installed on my C drive on my desktop. At this point I’m only using the PR4100 as a storage device for old video files and backups. Newer stuff is on my desktop. I have no problem accessing the NAS on the MyCloud app. Thanks for helping with this.

The pic you provided is showing the PR4100 as a server, not a folder. You can go to say your movie folder and edit it. Can have multiple folders feed say the movie folder like the pic below.

So if you have media on your C drive, just assign a drive letter to you parent folder on the PR4100 and then add it to your media types.

Not sure if I’m understanding. I mapped the NAS server and created a “Z” drive, but continued to receive the message that it was unreachable. Is that what you’re referring to?

Are you able to access the Z drive on your computer without having to enter any credentials to verify it’s a public directory?

I had deleted the drive after it didn’t work yesterday and just created another one. It’s working now! I don’t get it… yesterday when I tried to add it t Plex I received the message that it couldn’t be accessed! Thanks very much!!

Just one more issue: I selected a folder within “Z” when I added it to Plex, but it’s instead giving me metadata for the entire drive. Why am I not able to narrow it down to just one of “Z”'s subfolders?

So if you have 3 folders Pics, Movies and Shows. You should put all your Plex media into 1 parent directory. For example name a folder Plex Media and only have Movies and Shows folders in there.

That’s what I had originally done, but it included every folder on the drive. Tried it twice. However, I just realized instead of mapping the entire drive, I can map just the folder I want on Plex. That seems to be working so far. Thanks for your assistance.
