Server Version#: Plex Media Server v1.41.9.9961
Player Version#:
Unable to add Library Folder on Synology to Plex on Windows 11
Issue Summary:
Running Windows 11 with Plex Media Server v1.41.9.9961, trying to add a mapped Synology SMB folder (for photos) to the Plex library.
- The Synology folder is shared via SMB, with Read/Write permissions for Local Users.
- The Plex server is not hosted on the NAS.
- The mapped folder (e.g.,
I:\Photos) is accessible in Windows Explorer and works normally. - Permissions are also granted to System and Media/Plex users.
Problem:
When attempting to add the folder to the Plex library:
- Neither the mapped drive path (
I:\Photos) nor the UNC path (\\172.15.15.2\Photos) works. - Plex fails to populate any content or scan the folder.
- The mapped drive (
I:) does not appear in Plex’s folder selection list.
What I’ve Tried:
- Verified SMB access via Windows Explorer (works fine).
- Confirmed folder permissions.
- Attempted both mapped drive and UNC paths in Plex.
Question:
What steps or configurations might allow Plex on Windows 11 to see and access the mapped Synology SMB folder for library scanning?
Any suggestions or pointers greatly appreciated.
