I have installed Plex Server on a Windows 11 PC. I have an old NAS that required SMBv1 but i can browse and watch movie files on a share drive. When I add libraries to Plex it cannot see any folders on the share drive.
Any suggestions, thank you
When I add libraries to Plex it cannot see any folders on the share drive.
Just for clarity, does this mean that when you add a library it doesn’t find the movies, or that you can’t add the library at all because it can’t see the folder at the level you want to add the library?
Also, what OS is your Plex server running on, and are you following folder and file naming recommendations and here.
Hi @hokierulz
I thought I had premium/pro but its home version below. It cannot find folders and cannot find any movies as they are in folders. From windows explorer I can browse the share drive and play the movies.
I have had it running on windows 7 for years and have upgraded computer and windows to keep plex running, so the file structure and names should be OK because it was OK when mapped from the old PC.

Thank you! I think we are going to have to dive into some details.
- So we don’t have to speak in hypotheticals, what is that drive letter in Win 11 that you have mapped to your NAS? (Since you mentioned shared drive I’m assuming you have mapped to a drive letter, but if not then how are you mapping to your NAS?)
- When you add a library, are you selecting the library to be of type “Movies?”.
- During library creation when you click on the button “Browse for media folder” do you see the drive letter that is mapped to your NAS?
- If you do see the drive letter for your NAS mapping, is this what you set your library to - or is it a folder under the drive letter that you want to set the library to, and this is where it can’t see the folder so you can’t create the library at all?
- OR, if you are setting the library to just the drive letter, does it work to create the library, but then it doesn’t find anything because (we believe) it can’t see the folders?
- I’m assuming that you have the drive mapping set to map on every boot of your computer.
We may need to get debug level server logs covering the time period where you create/try to create a library.
Thank you your help but it seems to have righted itself now and I can see folders in the share drive. I can’t explain it other than I created a file on the share and deleted it as a test
Thank you for your time
