Unable to add media server

Server Version#: image
Player Version#: Version 4.8.4

Hi,

I was recently having issues with new media showing up on Plex so attempted to re-install. I have Plex installed and running on my Synology NAS

When I open Plex, I am unable to see “Diskstation” within Plex

Looking at guides it seems I should get an “add server” screen after logging in to Plex but this doesn’t seem to be happening and I can’t find anywhere of doing this.

Any help would be appreciated.

Quick questions:

  1. Is this a Docker installation?
  2. What are the IP addresses of the computer and the Syno ?
  1. Definitely not a docker installation
  2. Computer IP address is 192.168.0.6
    Synology IP address is 192.168.0.14

Having the same problem following the most recent update

We’re learning new things about the Web client.

Settings - General - Reset Customizations

When you do this, it lets you pick the new main server.

This may help, it may not. I wish I could be more definitive.

Regarding the media itself: Does user Plex have permission to read the shares?

Reference: Plex Media Server security changes for Synology users

Unfortunately no difference

Yes, Plex has the permissions to access the media

Try accessing it using http://192.168.0.14:32400 instead of hostname

It does work but I end up in the same place

Another user in the same position. Curiously it was NOT the most recent update that caused this. I just started up Plex for the first time in a while and found no libraries. Tried updating to the latest version and have exactly the same behaviour described above. Have tried restoring backup libraries, fixing corruption in libraries, and resetting customisations, all with no effect.

MacOS 10.11.6

In order to setup the server, I’m finding a nice little trick helps it stay relaxed (it is security conscious) when performing setup in certain cases.

  1. Sign out of your Plex account
  2. http://ip.addr.of.synology:32400/web?secure=0

The ?secure=0 tells it to relax, this one time, while you get it signed into your account and claimed.

You should be now greeted by the Got It, and setup screens in addition to the SignIn/claim.

I will caution: This doesn’t work if the server is on a different subnet of your home LAN. When split across subnets (bad in a home LAN under most cases) UDP broadcasts won’t function. Deliberate MAC/VLAN on a port basis is the proper solution .

Still no luck trying that approach. I get a brief flash of the “reset customisation” screen before it disappears but no setup screens.

I used to have the Synology listed on the list of authorised devices below but it doesn’t appear there now, would getting the setup to run be the way of getting it back on there?
