Plex asks me to "Get Plex Media Server" from within Plex Media Server

Server Version#: PlexMediaServer-1.19.5.3112-b23ab3896-x86_64
Player Version#: n/a
DSM 6.2.3-25426 Update 2

Plex used to work just fine, but now when I start it up on my Syno NAS and go to http://192.168.1.101:32400 all my content is gone and when I click on the “Add your media to Plex” I get to a splash page with a big button that says “Get Plex Media Server” :thinking: :sweat_smile:

I uninstalled and followed this tutorial Installation & Setup of Plex Media Server on Synology - #7 by ChuckPa but it didn’t change anything.

The only thing I can think of that could contribute to the issue is that I have nategate router with pfsense, but Plex worked just fine WITH the router before…

Anyone even ran into something like this? Thanks!

How are you attempting to access it?

Are you using the IP address of the Syno or app.plex.tv ?

My NAS is at http://192.168.1.101:5000 from there I click on “Plex Media Server” in the launcher which redirects me to http://192.168.1.101:32400/web/index.html

That part’s good.

I would like you to do the following, albeit it a bit extreme, to maximize chance of success in one step

  1. Go to the upper right corner of your Plex/Web UI
  2. Sign out of the app (dropdown is in your Avatar)
  3. Now open an incognito window
  4. Open http://192.168.1.101:32400/web

See if that brings you to a sign in and Setup Wizard start.
If not, we can dig further by manually grabbing the log files.

Go to the Syno FAQ (you’ll find some of these useful from time to time),

FAQ 1 - will grab the logs manually so I can inspect them.

@ChuckPa I’m having the same problem - logging out and logging back in through an incognito window did not fix the problem… I’ll read the FAQ to pull the log files. Is there another fix for this?

@joshhabrams

May I know some of the details?

  1. IP addr of machine you’re attempting to do this from
  2. IP addr of the Syno
  3. On the same LAN (local to each other) and not through Synology remote desktop?

If also possible,

  1. Open the Plex share in file station
  2. Go down to “Logs”
  3. Right - Click -> Compress to Logs.zip
  4. Attach that ZIP file here

@ChuckPa Thanks for getting back to me. Yes the Machine I’m using is on the same local LAN as the Syno, and I’m accessing it locally not through the web. IP addr. of my (MacBook) 10.0.1.7 and Syno 10.0.1.64 - there’s no Plex share in file station, only an empty recycle bin.

@joshhabrams

  1. Control Panel - Shared Folders - EDIT the Plex share
  2. Permissions tab
  3. Give your username R/W permissions
  4. Now open FileStation again
  5. Navigate in Plex -> Plex Media Server
  6. Right click “Logs” -> Compress to Logs.zip
  7. Download that and attach here please.

Thank you again @ChuckPa - the Logs.zip is attached

@trumpy81 - you can see from the logs that I set this up over a year ago. It was working until fairly recently. Now when trying to access the server I only get a message saying GET PLEX MEDIA SERVER. @ChuckPa had replied to @yannisdaman who was having the same issue. I’m not sure if the poor organization/naming conventions contribute to the issue, but at this stage I can’t access the server to even create libraries…

No, I don’t have any libraries at all. At the bottom of the Settings page it reads: Any Plex Web settings and home screen customization made in this Plex Web instance will not be synchronized with other Plex Web instances. This is because we have detected you have previously saved settings from a newer version of Plex Web. I just uninstalled & reinstalled the PLEX Server app on my Synology NAS - Version 4.12.3

Can’t get it installed…

OK - Got it! Here’s the Logs.zip file - I haven’t messed around with the new install yet.
Would it be better for me to clean up the hierarchy and naming convention since I only have a minimal number of movies before I start the PLEX Server?
Also - If I have a series; say “Lord Of The Rings” should there be a parent folder for all of the series then child folders for each movie?(File removed)

@trumpy81 & @ChuckPa THANK YOU both for your help! It took some effort but PLEX is now back up and running on my Syno NAS - all thanks to you! @trumpy81 you gave great step-by-step instructions. Without stopping PLEX on the NAS, signing out of the PLEX account, renaming the preferences, etc… it would not have come back online. Anyone else facing the same issues should now be able to rectify the problem by reading the thread. Have a great night & stay safe!
