Unable to Add Media to Library (or locate what was there)

Hi… I upgraded to Kubuntu 19.10, and all is well save Plex (and was well within Kubuntu 19.04), as I can not locate my media or add any. I am using Chrome, updated to latest version within Ubuntu.

I logged out and back in; I uninstalled and reinstalled; I logged out and in, again: still, I the server will neither present my library nor allow me to add to it, as it only redirects to downloading Plex server again (w/ no option to add files).

Any help would be appreciated (for a paying customer)… W.

Did you add a library type and point it at your media files?

I’m sorry to ask the basics but it’s not clear what steps you’ve taken to this point or where you’re at.

Chuck… Thank-you for your reply. (I was away for the holiday so I apologize for the late response.)

Yes, I added libraries and have used Plex successfully, w/o any issue, prior to the latest update (about two weeks ago).

What Plex now presents is a loop, where selecting the option for my media ONLY presents another opportunity to download and install the program, again.

Thank-you for your help… That is where things are…

So I am clear:

  1. Click the + to add a library section
  2. Select the type of library
  3. Click Add Folders
  4. It spins…
  5. then fails and takes you to an offer to install?

Chuck… Thank-you, again, for your time…

So, no, nothing spins. What happens is that after selecting “+” to add a library, I am given a screen w/ an arrow at center (not active) and below it an option to install Plex (which is already installed).

Therefore, there is no option appearing anywhere to add folders; again, I ran Plex with my own media libraries added and now can not…

Thanks, again, W.

Chuck… I should add that this happens within Ubuntu 19.04, Ubuntu Mate 19.10, and Kubuntu 19.10; browsers are current versions of Firefox (v. 71) and Chrome (v. 78)…

The plus sign offers a “my media” in the left panel but only allows for a static screen presenting an orange arrow at center (and the option to install Plex at lower, center in fine print). In other words, there is no active option which presents a selection of folders or a file tree w/ which to find them.

Thanks, again… W.

Can you screenshot for me, marking on it where necessary, what you’re seeing & what’s wrong?

I’m having difficulty picturing it.

I seem to be facing this same issue. Attempting to setup the latest version of Plex Media Server on both a Synology NAS, and on a CentOS 7 machine -

Clicking to add media tells me to ‘Install Plex Media Server’, which is what I am running..

Chuck, sure… (But how do I do that–there doesn’t seem to be an obvious way…) W.

Chuck… I have pasted the screen capture that you requested.

This is ALL that happens after attempting to add media; the orange arrow is not active, while the link to download Plex is. As you can see, there is no way to locate a folder w/ which to add media.

Thank-you for your help… W.

Thanks. Now I see what’s happening.

Did you type in app.plex.tv or did it do that?
Did you try:

  1. Sign out of Plex/web (upper right corner)
  2. Open http://127.0.0.1:32400/web (I presume the server is on this machine you’re typing at)
    -or-
    http://ip.addr.of.host (on your LAN)

If it’s remote (VPS), then we need a tunnel.

Can you provide extra info about where the host is?

Chuck… You did it! Thank-you, so much, for that…

That IP address refresh did the trick–worked like a charm.

I will have to remember that one–I hope that this helps someone else…

Happy Holidays… W.
