How do I add media?

Server Version#: 1.18.2.2029-36236cc4c

I installed a new plexmediaserver deb on ubuntu 16, started it up, logged in, and I can’t find the option anywhere to add a media folder anywhere. “Your Media” on the left goes, uselessly, to a page that says “download plex media server”, which is what I’m already running.

So what’s the deal? Is this completely nerfed and useless now? Or is this version just completely broken?

In order to create a new library you might need to click the More button in the navigation. In the subsequent view you can hover over the server name and click + to add a new library.

As part of the library creation dialog you’ll be asked to add one (or more) folders to this library.
If you want to add new content (folders) to an existing library… click ... > Manage Library > Edit... and add/change the folders in the Add folder tab.

Edit: If you don’t want to jump between more and pinned in the main navigation… you can always manage your libraries under Settings > [Server Name] > Manage > Libraries

None of what you describe is there.

There’s a “more”, but there’s no “+” anywhere. There’s no server name to hover over. There’s no manage library. Under settings I don’t have a server name anything.

In new versions of Plex, try managing your libraries from the Settings menu.

Open up Settings, then go to the Manage heading. Under that, you’ll see a Libraries option.

To create a Library section, using your Web browser,

Click the + (Add Library)

A popup will open.
Now you can select the Type of library you wish.

On the subsequent pages, you can add the media folders to have PMS add.

Sounds like your browser can’t detect your unclaimed PMS, and as such, wants you to download one

Please show the XML output when browsing towards:
http://<IP_OF_Server>:32400/identity

And a few Q’s:

  • Are your browser on the same IP net as your server
    • Above is a must, until claimed
  • Are you using private address space
    • Above is a must, until claimed
  • Are you sure, that your browser doesn’t have some kinda plugin’s, that could prevent detection
