Server Version#:1.20.3.3483-211702a9f
Player Version#:
When I sign into Plex on the server on Pi itself using localhost:32400 it says that the server is not claimed please claim it. When I try to claim it nothing happens. It goes away after a while and I am not able to view my media., from any other player. This was working fine until I did an update to plex.
The most common error I’ve seen on Pi systems, due to their configuration, is the user Plex runs as, which I think is user pi, doesn’t have ownership of the files (/var/lib/plexmediaserver) or networking is unable resolve to plex.tv properly to complete the loop.
This is all I am aware of. I don’t support Pi systems.
By default, Plex runs as user plex on a Raspberry Pi if installed using the native package from Plex website. You can of course change it in the usual way. Using Plex Media Server on a Raspberry Pi running Raspbery Pi OS (nee Raspbian) isn’t really any different than doing so with any other supported distribution. Of course you need to ensure most of your media can be direct played; you don’t want to really on a Pi’s CPU for much video transcoding. Having said that…
It’s worth checking the permissions of your /var/lib/plexmediaserver directory to ensure user plex owns it (or at least has read, write, and execute permissions). Or, if you run PMS under a different user, ensure that user has appropriate permissions.
You may also want to ensure that the system has access to Internet and that there are no DNS or other network issues.
Assuming it isn’t a permissions or network issue, try stopping PMS, renaming the following file, starting PMS, and going through the claim process again (this won’t affect your libraries): /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Preferences.xml
This will make it appear as a brand new server, but your libraries will be intact. You will have reconfigure any settings you’d configured, such as remote access.
