I’m running plex media server on a RPi 4 and everything was working fine until I needed to do the password reset and log out all devices. After that, my main plex server wasn’t showing as available so I logged directly into it via the ip_address:32400/web interface and logged out and logged back in and none of my local media is showing. When I click on “My Media” it gives me a button to install plex media server, which is already installed and confirmed running.
I did not get an option to “reclaim” my server or anything that I’ve seen in the forums. I tried updating everything and rebooting and that didn’t change anything. Any suggestions on how I deal with this? Any additional info needed from me to help troubleshoot it? Thanks.
I appreciate the suggestion, I did in fact read all the way to the bottom and I also read the article about being locked out of server settings, but since I was not in any way getting a message that said You do not have permission to access this server” or sometimes a “No soup for you” message when viewing in the Plex Web App., or anything which similarly seemed to indicate that I was “locked out” of the server, I didn’t follow those steps.
It might be good to add to one or the other of these articles that if you don’t see your server at all, that this is what you need to do.
I removed those lines and still didn’t see the server showing up to be claimed (or anything different) when accessing the server from another machine on the same network, however, when I accessed the plex server via a browser directly on the RPi, it showed up there and I was able to claim it from there. I’m not sure if that’s something exclusive to RPi architecture and setup, but also might be worth mentioning Password Reset article, that accessing the server locally is preferred if you don’t see the server showing up to be claimed, or something along those lines. Just a suggestion.
This DOES NOT WORK!
And now?
I edited the Preferences.xml but NOW WAY! My Server is gone!
And by the way: Some mentioned entrys are not in the file, like
Please note that this is specifically what is said in the article (below). It lists network and even remote as options, but they were not viable options in my case. Just clarifying what my frustration was. Same Network did not work at all in my case and might be an issue for others. If that’s not helpful feedback for the Plex team, then no worries, hopefully it will help some other poor soul who runs into the same confusion.
@zonediver if you aren’t hitting the web interface from the local machine where plex media server is installed, you may want to try that (http://127.0.0.1:32400/web) and see if that helps you find your server to claim. That, in the end is what made the difference for me.
Also, if you made a copy of your Preferences.xml file before editing, you could try stopping the server, copying that back over the changed file, and restarting and see if that puts you back to what you were seeing before the change.
I tried it from my computer > NOT working
I tried it from my second PC > WORKING, BUT
I get the Info, that unraid (Plex-Server) is “local”…
What does this mean?
That is a good thing. It just means that the server is located in the same local network as the web browser which runs the web app.
So bandwidth restrictions for remote connections don’t apply in that case.
You need to use the local IP address of the server. Since your Plex server is NOT running on the same machine as your web browser, you cannot use the address 127.0.0.1 (that one means localhost, so literally “this same machine”).
I need some help with this very same issue.
I cleared the attributes from the Prefrences.xml file.
When I browse locally I get the following
Browse from my computer … No Claim option
Browse from incognito window … No Claim option
Browse from a server on the same network as my plex server …No Claim option
I am watching the PlexMediaServer.log and seeing this

Still unable to solve claim issue.
