Hi. I have recently begun to run out of internal storage on my Shield running PMS as a result of the amount of Plex metadata. I decided to follow the instructions below to move to user accessible storage in order to free up the space and also to make backups:
It is frustrating that Plex insists their formus be the only means to get technical support when they cherry-pick which posts to respond.
I’ve seen other posts regarding missing PMS options so if the missing PMS options is a result of a bug, that is totally fine…I get it. But I need to know so I know how to proceed since as it stands right now Plex posted an article that is incorrect and my Shield is running out of space. Do I just need to wait for a bug to be fixed? Is there something I need to do to fix this?
And if the answer is no, is there now a different method rather than the instructions in the Plex article to get my metadata moved to a user accessable location?
I had this issue today. I stopped the server to backup my database as I do every few months. When I went back to restart the server, there were no options under the PLEX MEDIA SERVER heading, as shown above.
I’ve got so far into this to remedy it that I cleared all data, uninstalled and reinstalled app updates to start fresh with my restored database. Now I’m just going through a loop trying to log in. The current version appears to be broken.
I see the same as you and @CallClear with my Shield Pro 2015.
If I uninstall all PMS updates, then I can start PMS and update it to the current version.
However, if I then stop PMS it shows the same as in @CallClear’s screenshot and there is no way to restart PMS other than going through the entire uninstall/update procedure again.
Had similar issue. Got the update recently and then it started disconnecting from NS. Rolled back updates and started again but as soon as I update again I either get no PMS in settings or constantly disconnecting. Not ideal. Hopefully they sort it soon.
I’m the same except I had to stop the server to unplug something and when I got back to Plex it ominously said ‘Talking to Server’ before I got to the user login. From there, I got no server folders. So after navigating through the settings page, I got the screen CallClear did. So here I am on my bedroom floor, doing a manual restore of the database. Brilliant.
I suspect this is a bug as well but I am concerned about tinkering because I don’t want to wind up with even bigger issues as others have experienced. For now I just keep clearing data to keep my Shield running…but I can’t do this forever.
I just don’t understand why Plex won’t either acknowledge this is an issue that they are working on or provide solutions for those of us having problems.
Hello all - I’m having the same issue. Strangely, the external harddrive on my Shield is being recognised and is playable via my laptop (!) but not via the shield itself. Anyway, I deleted the servers, reinstalled, and now there’s no Shield server.
So, I uninstalled on both laptop and shield, reinstalled, even created a new account - it’s doing the same thing! There’s no fresh start option. No option to start a server. It goes right in to Plex and, in the settings, there’s no server shown.
So right now, I can’t use PLEX at all. It’s completely broken with no means to fix even after a fresh install.
I got mine up and running by logging out, uninstall the updates to both the player and server apps, reboot shield, update both apps and sign in, stop both apps in shield app settings rather than stopping the server in the app, restore the database to the internal user-accessible drive and then reboot shield again. Been working fine ever since but I won’t be stopping the server any time soon.
Sorry to hear this issue is happening to a lot of people but also glad I’m not the only one. Can’t stop the server at all or else it goes away completely. Tried erasing all data, factory resetting shield, completely starting from scratch and I was very hopeful but it still happened and looks just like the original screenshot if I stop the server at all. These recent updates really just screwed me.
