Perhaps Plex won't start - 'error' message pop-up - #4 by OttoKerner
Make sure to close/end/quit any Torrent client before attempting to start Plex server.
None running
Then enable debug logging and fetch those server logs manually.
You enable debug logs without the server running by importing this .reg file:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server]
"logDebug"=dword:00000001
"LogVerbose"=dword:00000000
how do i create this
You copy the text into the clipboard (all of it!). Then you start notepad.exe and paste it in.
Save it as txt file.
Then rename that text file and change the file name extension from .txt to .reg
Then double-click on that .reg file and confirm that you want it to be imported into the registry.
Is your server actually installed and running on a Windows computer?
You (previous?) server appears to have been on a Mac.
Originally it was on a Mac, but ive got a new machine (Windows)
Ive installed both player and server on THIS Windows laptop
Ive imported that registry but cant see anything
You still need to go to the Plex data folder and look for the log files.
Hence why I wrote “manually” above. It is described in the log files support article.
Plex Tuner Service.1.log (1.8 KB)
The tuner service log is not relevant.
Plex Media Server.log is required. Or ist that completely missing?
Plex Media Server.1.log (181.0 KB)
Is “markw” the user name of your Windows user account? Or are you using a different user name to login to your Windows machine?
Did you delete or block certain apps from running?
This log shows a quite ordinary startup of Plex Server, until it tries to start the Plex Tuner Service.
Hi
Sorry
Im not sure how i find that information out
i dont think ive deleted/blocked any apps - how do i find this out
Doing this would either require additional tools,
or turning the Windows installation into either “Kiosk mode” (no longer supported on Windows 11) or enable “Smart App Control” in Win11.
If you did none of that it must be something else.
ive definitely not done any of that
Your log is littered with messages about a “changed network”. It appears you are using WiFi, and it’s unstable.
However, it is strongly recommended to connect the Plex server with a wired network line to the router/home network.
Moreover, the time stamps in your log suggest that it ran indeed for 2 hours.
So what exactly do you mean when you write that you are unable to launch Plex Server?
When I launch The Player then go to “My Media” it says Get Media Server
That is a different issue.
If you can open the local web app from http://127.0.0.1:32400/web then Plex server is running indeed.
In which case you want to look at You need to reclaim your server, but don't dare to touch the Windows Registry
This doesnt work, still the same issue
